  • ‘Marks’ as in ‘stains’

We get it - Simon Marks doesn’t like Donald Trump. But why should his personal prejudice be allowed to twist factual presentation? He’s just jealous he’s not a person of consequence, or destiny, unlike The Don. SAD!

  • ‘Don’t phone me at work!’

Look guys, Iain is very, very busy with his ghastly guests, yeah, so only phone in if you agree with him, or you’ll make him all prickly. You’re lucky to have him!

  • I love the show BUT

I love listening to Iain but of late the quality of the podcast has been poor. It starts off nicely and then its chopped up, callers are “Cut off” and you are listening to debate and its all over the place. Really does not reflect welll.

  • Putting the onion in opinion.

Iain’s big, benevolent bonce rises nightly like a moon over the cooling news fray, casting a dim, bland light on events. He’s not as smart as he seems, but who is? Ghastly guests, wiser callers, all add to the charm.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Does Keir Starmer have any authority left now?
Q: What does the Prime Minister's response imply about the Defence Investment Plan?
The host and guests suggest that the Prime Minister publicly supports increased defence spending, but behind the scenes the plan lacks public backing or clarity, raising concerns about whether the plan will meet NATO targets.
Would any of the potential challengers be a preferable Prime Minister to you than Keir Starmer?
Q: Who would make the best Prime Minister among the four contenders?
Host and guests discuss Burnham, Rayner, Streeting, and Starmer, with polling data and constituency risks shaping opinions; Burnham is highlighted as potentially strongest in the North but faces by-election risks, while Starmer remains the benchmark opponent.
Should Keir Starmer stay or should he go?
Q: What will it take for Keir Starmer to see the writing on the wall and walk off into the sunset?
Panelists indicate it would require a combination of mounting internal pressure from MPs, clear signals from Cabinet colleagues, and a consensus that leadership change is necessary to restore public trust, potentially including an orderly transition or a formal leadership contest.
Can Keir Starmer survive this political crisis after all?
Q: Do you think Keir Starmer can survive as leader given the current pressure?
The consensus among many panelists is mixed; some back Starmer, emphasizing the need for stability and better messaging, while others argue that a change in leadership may be necessary to restore public confidence and electoral viability.
Would you support the government paying the EU £1 billion a year to access its markets again?
Q: Do you think that if we did have some sort of closer relationship with the EU, that it would be a betrayal of the 17.2 million people who voted leave in 2016?
The host asks for the listener's view on whether closer ties would betray the leave vote, and guests offer pragmatic, national-interest-based arguments rather than strictly ideological stances.
