  • Always great guests & insightful chat

Just listened to the interview with Matthew Syed; insightful, funny and honest. We need more people like him and Iain who say things with an honest, non-tribal perspective. It’s challenging and respectful. Always worth listening to Iain.

  • Fantastic interview with Duncan Barkes

I’ve just listen to the Iain Dale All Talk interview with Duncan Barkes. It was great hearing them talk about Duncan’s career as a radio presenter and brought back memories for me of listening to LBC as a teenager in the 1970s up to the current day. A good radio host can keep you engaged and entertained.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

367. Sarah Vine
Q: How did your family cope with the public nature of your life and Michael's career?
She explains the toll on her children, the pressures of GCSEs under political scrutiny, and her efforts to shield them while recognizing that public life inevitably affects family dynamics.
367. Sarah Vine
Q: So what was it like being in the press as a strong woman in politics and journalism?
Vine describes it as a double-edged sword—hated for being in politics and for being in the press—and notes the relentless scrutiny, resilience needed, and the sense of balancing personal life with public scrutiny.
368. Lord Peter Ricketts
Q: Can you discuss the importance and future of the 'special relationship'?
The guest says the special relationship remains meaningful mainly in defense and intelligence; in other areas it is more transactional and bolstered by shared history and culture rather than a deep, cohesive alliance across all domains.
368. Lord Peter Ricketts
Q: What are your views on Brexit and its consequences for the Foreign Office?
Brexit is viewed as a turbulent, largely disruptive period for diplomacy; yet the guest argues for maintaining strong European security cooperation and exploring new forms of cooperation outside the EU, with a pragmatic approach to NATO and defense industrial collaboration.
368. Lord Peter Ricketts
Q: Do you think the Foreign Office is planning for the post‑Trump world and what it might mean for global institutions?
The guest suggests that while global institutions remain essential, Britain should think in terms of European channels and alliance structures, potentially strengthening a European‑led security framework with the US involvement scaled back, rather than chasing a new global body. He also notes the importance of keeping UN agencies active even if reform is needed.
