Disco Elysium & Pentiment Writer Märten Rattasepp Interview - Human Can Opener Podcast
Q: How did you approach writing the more sensitive characters and controversial viewpoints found in the game?
I approached them with empathy and a focus on authentic voice, aiming to reflect different perspectives rather than endorsing any single stance. This included crafting responses that could reveal character growth or critique the ideology in question through dialogue, not just through narration.
Disco Elysium & Pentiment Writer Märten Rattasepp Interview - Human Can Opener Podcast
Q: What drew you into Disco Elysium and how did your background influence your writing on the project?
My academic background in literature and semiotics, plus the ZAUM connection, shaped a style that valued language, subtext, and cultural commentary. I started with Tommy LaHomme as a test character to learn Articy, then gradually wrote a range of scenes and dialogues that pushed the game's themes of identity, morality, and class.
Alphyna Interview Ice Pick Lodge, Pathologic, Disco Elysium
Q: Will Pathologic 3 get an art book?
It's not currently planned, but we are considering something, maybe some digital compilations of our intermediate works.
Alphyna Interview Ice Pick Lodge, Pathologic, Disco Elysium
Q: What do you find interesting about the characters in Disco Elysium?
I really liked Gary, the crypto-fascist, because his character was an actual genuine exploration of how people who are not necessarily deeply evil become right-wingers.
Human Can Opener S2E8: Christoffer Bodegård
Q: What are your hopes for the future of Elysium and Disco Likes as a genre?
Christoffer hopes for more games that emphasize strong interactive writing and agency, aiming for depth and creativity in storytelling, similar to Disco Elysium.
