  • Content 5 stars- Audio 2 stars

I really enjoy the topics, host and guest speakers however the audio is unlistenable. I am not sure if it’s a mic issue but before every speaker, you can hear their inhale almost as a very loud distracting gasp. I have to turn off every episode that it happens on. Which is a shame because the content is so great. I listen to a lot of content and have not heard this on other pods.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Cornered Office: Why Leadership Mental Health Can't Wait
Q: You've had the opportunity to work with giant companies and international teams. What can the US learn from other countries about mental health and leadership culture?
Mel notes that other countries often treat duty of care as a legal or cultural norm, which translates into more humane treatment of staff and support for leaders. She contrasts this with the US emphasis on speed and individualism, arguing that broader, decency-driven practices can improve leadership resilience and employee well-being.
Cornered Office: Why Leadership Mental Health Can't Wait
Q: And I don't want to add the premise. I think I'd love for you to describe kind of what's the premise behind Cornered Office and why did you write the book?
Mel explains that Cornered Office uses data and interviews to argue that organizations dehumanize leaders and fail to provide necessary support, which makes it hard for leaders to perform well. The book grounds its argument in extensive research, including peer-reviewed sources and qualitative interviews, to show why leadership needs humane, evidence-based backing.
Gym to Boardroom: Building Resilience Through Physical and Mental Habits
Q: How do you tailor coaching to individuals who respond differently to feedback and encouragement?
Understanding that care and trust drive receptivity is key; tailor approaches to each person, blend honest critique with supportive guidance, and create a safe space for growth.
Gym to Boardroom: Building Resilience Through Physical and Mental Habits
Q: How can leaders foster resiliency in teams through daily habits and leadership tone?
Leaders should model a calming, supportive presence, set clear standards with constructive feedback, and balance directness with grace to help teams cope with stress and stay motivated.
Gym to Boardroom: Building Resilience Through Physical and Mental Habits
Q: What is a healthier way to think about resiliency in the workplace?
Resiliency involves acknowledging emotions and choosing not to let them hold you back, using discomfort as a signal to pause, refocus, and continue with a clear purpose and self-compassion.
