  • Always valuable insight

Really appreciate this podcast. My library is full, but I always look forward to the next instalment from Noto Group. Roy really digs in to what makes both sides successful through the employment process. Also appreciate how Roy is selective in his interviewees, providing a range of experiences vs quantity of podcasts. Will look forward to the next.

Emphasizes long-term fit, values alignment, and the need to understand the broader context of the organization, not just the immediate responsibilities.
Thinking “Career Forward” with Christiana Smith Shi, former Nike Direct-to-Consumer President
Q: What was your first spark of interest in the industry and how did you get started in the career you've built?
She describes moving from investment banking to management consulting via business school, inspired by working with McKinsey on a client project, which led to her long tenure at McKinsey and subsequent roles at Nike.
New Belgium CEO Shaun Belongie on Human Powered Business Model
Q: What role does technology play in your strategic plan, given the human-powered nature of the business?
Technology is viewed as an enabler rather than a driving strategy—focus is on finding where digital can power business goals, with clear joint accountability between IT and business units to avoid chasing every trend.
New Belgium CEO Shaun Belongie on Human Powered Business Model
Q: How do you maintain authenticity and culture as the company grows and faces external pressures?
We lean on a strong cultural foundation built on rituals, transparency, humility, and learning agility; we balance internal promotion with bringing in outside leadership to introduce necessary processes, while protecting the foundational culture that makes the brand distinct.
New Belgium CEO Shaun Belongie on Human Powered Business Model
Q: What was your transition like moving from CMO to CEO at a company with a strong, values-driven culture?
The transition felt smoother because I had already been deeply involved in portfolio changes and in understanding the people and culture; the real challenge was navigating rapid shifts in consumer preferences and scaling the business while keeping our core values intact.
