  • Nice and quick

Great tips and usually little gold nuggets from the networks other shows so you can save the important information and not have to listen to a full show and find out again.

  • Decent.

I've listened to quite a few of the tips- the tips and experts are great (my personal favourite is Jessica Phoenix)!

The first and last couple minutes are just advertising though.. so it's not very to the point. Overall, though, it is really good! :)

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

1638: Deep Sulcus Thrush, by Sentinel Horse Nutrition
Q: Can you tell us what deep sulcus thrush is precisely?
Alicia explains that it's a fungal/microbial infection inside the frog, specifically a deep set in the central sulcus at the back of the frog, which can create a crack that reaches toward the heel bulbs and harbor bacteria.
1636: The Counterintuitive Nature of Training Your Horse to Trailer, by Sentinel Horse Nutrition
Q: So we've got a horse, this is from Susan, and it's how to help an off-the-track thoroughbred who gets stressed when trailering or being in a stall for more than 20 minutes.
The guest describes treating the trailer as a calm space, using short, boring sessions with repeated load-stand-unload cycles, allowing the horse to retreat without pressure, and gradually increasing exposure while prioritizing rest and safety to cement the behavior.
1637: Lessons From A Premature Foal, by Sentinel Horse Nutrition
Q: So Tracy, for someone listening to this podcast and imagining or going through something similar with a foal not getting enough milk, what would you say about feeding the foal and supporting the dam?
I'd emphasize using a complete balanced feed that provides readily available nutrients, and consider tools like Safe Start to help the foal get nutrition even if the mare isn't nursing well. It's crucial to stay proactive, keep trying different approaches, and use supportive products that can make the foal's life-saving nutrition possible.
1631: Identifying Gaps In Your Horse's Training, by Sentinel Horse Nutrition
Q: What do you do when you don't have a lot of history on a horse to evaluate their training level and holes that may exist?
I pretend they don't know anything and let them show me what they know, then continue from there, sometimes spending a week evaluating in different contexts to confirm gaps.
1629: Gaited Horse Primer with Gaye DeRusso, by Sentinel Horse Nutrition
Q: Explain how that whole gating thing works.
Gated movement exists on a spectrum between the classic trot and pace, with multiple intermediate gaits like flat walk, running walk, foxtrot, saddle gait, and rack; breeders and trainers have shaped these gaits over time, leading to a variety of performance levels and styles in different gated breeds.
