A majority of the time spent with each interviewee is prodding at a childhood trauma. Despite the word ‘surprise’ being in the title of this show, the host’s approach is quite formulaic, focussed on shining a light on personal drama in a sort of pseudo-therapeutic manner. The production is sloppy. Not sure why so many artists accept an invitation to talk on this show - have they ever listened to it?
