  • BMI episode

I just listened to the episode on bmi. The physician speaking who said weight shouldn’t be addressed is bizarre to me. She even said the patient who lost weight had her diabetes under control. So the weight loss was beneficial. Very misleading episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Improving the healthcare system for women
Q: Why is there a focus on primary care in this rule?
The rule emphasizes longitudinal patient relationships and ongoing care management over episodic procedures, aiming to boost primary care incentives, support group-based care, and reward clinicians in value-based arrangements.
Improving the healthcare system for women
Q: What major changes is CMS proposing to the physician payment model for 2027?
CMS is reducing conversion factors for both qualifying and non-qualifying APM participants, while also overhauling how practice expenses are calculated by shifting away from old AMA survey data toward a more objective method that uses work RVUs and clinical labor RVUs. They will phasing out IPCI, which would redistribute payments across specialties.
Frictionless payment, post-claim resolution and the move to value
Q: Adam, when you talk to RCM leaders, what is the most common misconception they have about what is required in post-claim resolution if you want to do well?
Leaders often overemphasize prioritization while assuming that all initiatives must be handled within their core competencies; the key is to identify which priorities can be addressed internally and which would benefit from partnerships, aligning initiatives with an organization's core capabilities.
The hospital of the future with Jeni Williams
Q: What did you not have space for here that you think is worth mentioning?
The discussion highlighted ROI challenges for patient-facing innovations, noting that financial benefits can take years to quantify and require rethinking which metrics truly capture value, such as operational efficiency, physician and patient satisfaction, and reduced no-show rates.
A key antitrust case against providers, plus the marriage of patient experience and AI
Q: Where do you see the biggest opportunities for AI in improving the patient experience?
Opportunities include onboarding, wayfinding, price estimates, affordability, and streamlined payments, all integrated within electronic health records and platforms to create a frictionless patient journey.
