I have listened to this three times since 2013, even making my mom listen to it with me once on a road trip of our own. It is hilarious. Like, so much so that the first time I listened to it, my coworkers came up to me to make sure I was alright, that's how hard I laughed.
The writing is wonderful. the story is engaging, and it's delightfully absurd. Anyone who has ever wondered what a family road trip in a posessed car might be like, listen to this.
A random search on iTunes led me to this podcast. I wasn’t sure it was going to be my sort of thing, but from the first chapter I was hooked. I love the story. It reminded me of three things. Firstly the big old Mercury Cougar my husband had when we were first courting (I am a Limey and we don’t have too many of them in UK). Secondly one of our trips to the U.S. and a visit to the Grand Canyon. It is true what Chris says, in that, sitting cross legged on the ground and looking out into th... more
....and not just because mine was one of those families that traveled to and fro during summer vacations. i think the story is engaging and fairly well read. it is 'read' and not 'performed' as many podcast are - with many actors and wild sound effects. i would equate this with the Seth Harwood readings. straight from the heart. i would be happy to check out future works by Christopher Gronlund.
Its a good story and I am enjoying it, worth a listen
I found this book to be a great read, I loved it. I normally don’t do reviews. I enjoy books simply for their entertainment. Good job for a first podcast, I loved it. Thank you Christopher. BTW, once I start a book I will always finish it, no matter how bad it might be. This one was in no danger.
I downloaded this story for work because it looked interesting but did I ever underestimate it!! When I left work, I kept listening and I'm sure the people around me wondered what the lady in the car next to them was laughing so loudly about. It is a GREAT story, very funny and soooo true for those of us who took road trips with their crazy families. Download and prepare to laugh!!!
Great podcast of an entertaining novel. The story gets funnier with every mile the O'Brien family travels. I took a lot of road trips as a kid, but they were nothing like this.
This story evoked many memories of childhood road trips. This story hits all the high points: everything from pecan rolls to reptile farms. Add to the mix a few possessions and you have one hell of a yarn (pardon the pun). Excellent!
