  • Stop yelling

This podcast is too stressful to listen to because the host sounds like he’s yelling. Maybe he needs better sound equipment.

  • Great content, poor delivery

I’ve been wanting to learn more about heart rate variability, and the content of this podcast is really good. However, the Podcaster needs to work on a few things in order to make the show easier to listen to. He talks so loud that it’s almost startling. It’s kind of like when you see your elderly grandparent screaming into the phone because they think you can’t hear them. Maybe there are courses or training that one could take in order to work on the tone and pitch of voice?

  • Obnoxious voice and poor interviewer

Host is not a good interviewer. I was looking to get educated about ways to increase my HRV. I listened to 4 podcasts and I didn’t get any knowledge I could apply.

  • More Practical Application Advice Needed

I’m looking to understand what HRV is, how it’s determined (in layman terms), “normal” ranges according to age and gender, and most importantly, how to improve. Sadly, all this podcast does is keep repeating how important HRV is to understanding one’s health status w/o, IMO, helping us understand our HRV numbers.

  • Finally! The HRV podcast I’ve been looking for!

I have been on the hunt for a HRV podcast that doesn’t just focus on athletes and begins to apply HRV to a broader population. Here it is! Finally! And they do a great job of reviewing research which I find very exciting! Thank you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr. Richard Harris Discusses his Research with HRV and Integrative Medicine
Q: Where did heart rate variability come into your consciousness?
It came about via two pathways: through shamanism and an investigator's technique called electrocardiometrics.
Stephanie White talks Very High Frequency HRV
Q: Is one of the metrics where, well, one of the situations where high frequency seems to be a measure that's actually catching on more and more is with normal breathing?
High frequency and very high frequency are distinct; true very high frequency reflects hyperventilation, which is undesirable.
Dr. Inna Khazan discusses the Importance and Power of Low Frequency HRV
Q: How are max min and low frequency related?
They are related but not one-to-one; max min is a strong indicator of vagal influence and reflects performance during biofeedback training, while low frequency can indicate percentage-based distributions.
Dr. Inna Khazan discusses the Importance and Power of Low Frequency HRV
Q: Why shouldn't I stay in low frequency all the time?
Staying in low frequency for too long can suppress high frequency and very low frequency activity, which are also important for overall nervous system function.
Dr. Inna Khazan discusses the Importance and Power of Low Frequency HRV
Q: What is low frequency power an indicator of?
Low frequency power indicates the activity of the Baroreflex and the vagus nerve, which are the two main sources of Heart Rate Variability.
