  • Don’t need the separate stories

The Health Report gets eleven out of ten. The separate stories are a waste of time but I don’t seem to be able to get rid of them

  • Missing episodes

I never miss an episode of this interesting and informative show. It’s a 5 star listen that is only being awarded 3 stars because the ABC hasn’t posted the latest 2 episodes of the show to podcast subscribers.

  • Biased toward broken convention in nutrition

Dr. Swan has a fine voice for radio. Almost trustworthy. I listen to hear how out of date Dr. Swan is when it comes to nutritional health science. Eat less, move more and the Mediterranean diet is so 20th century anchored and may only benefit a small segment of the unhealthy community. Whereas current researchers are resolving type 2 diabetes, for example, with creative application of the findings from the last decade of studies.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sleep, memory and mood: key differences in how men and women experience Parkinson's disease
Q: How much does self‑reporting impact the overall interpretation of the findings?
Self‑reporting is both a strength and a weakness: it enables large‑scale insight into lived experiences, but requires careful validation to ensure accurate symptom onset and exposure timelines.
Sleep, memory and mood: key differences in how men and women experience Parkinson's disease
Q: How reliable is the data, given that it's self‑reported and participants are years down the track?
The data offer valuable patient perspectives but have limitations; the large sample provides breadth, while telehealth follow‑ups will help validate the self‑reported information against clinical observations.
Who's using peptides and do we know what's in them?
Q: What do we know about how prevalent peptide use is right now?
There is no solid prevalence data yet; researchers rely on proxies like social media activity and demand signals from needle and syringe programs to estimate uptake, noting a substantial and growing interest.
Reducing exposure to plastic-associated chemicals
Q: So you're 200 people, 60 people went through the intervention—describe what you did to the 60 participants to try and reduce their plastic exposure.
The team studied 211 participants to identify high-exposure sources, then designed multiple intervention arms: paddock-to-plate with no plastic contact, low-plastic food with metal/glass utensils, and combined groups that also used low-plastic personal care products; the most successful approach combined low-plastic food, kitchen utensils, and personal care products.
Tech shown to help treat eating disorders
Q: Where can listeners find credible programs like Inside Out Institute's offerings?
Listeners should seek credible programs with research backing, and Inside Out Institute in Sydney is highlighted as an example of credible internet programs implemented at scale; verify access to credible, evidence-based options.
