  • What a mistake

Whose idea was it to change this from the iconic Hard Talk with Legendary Stephen Sackur to The Interview. It needed some changes to stay relevant but I would have made it longer. The BBC needs to get with the programme. Realise the modern trend for long for listening especially in depth interviews is what was lacking. I would have given anything to hear Stephen for an hour to two hours really asking the hard questions of interviewees and giving them a real chance to answer in depth. What a loss... more

  • This was better than anything we have in Germany

Thank you ever so much for your service to the public Mr. Sackur.

As a German I am very enthusiastic about the way you pick your „guests“ brains and the way you do not let them get away with their prepared lines that they get away with everywhere else. Especially the non native speakers sometimes show their face behind the mask.

I hope you will be able to look behind the facades for a very long time to come….

  • Embarrassing

Taking a fantastic programme like HardTalk and replacing it with random interviews from other programmes is the perfect example of the BBC offering less and less depth and value.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Nadia Calviño, EIB President: Can Europe compete?
Q: Is the market underutilized, and are there enough commercial activities to attract the level of investment you're talking about?
Yes, Europe is a massive, underutilized market; by removing inefficiencies, simplifying processes, and leveraging a deeper single market, Europe can attract scale and firms can grow into global players.
Guillermo del Toro, director: I only make movies for art
Q: How do you view the role of technology like AI or CGI in your art?
He sees AI as not useful for art and prefers traditional craft in combination with practical effects and careful storytelling, arguing that digital tools cannot replace the emotional weight of human-centered art.
Guillermo del Toro, director: I only make movies for art
Q: What was Hitchcock's influence on your approach to cinema?
Hitchcock taught him discipline in storytelling, focusing on how composition and editing can shape emotion, and treating film as a rectangle charged with emotion.
Guillermo del Toro, director: I only make movies for art
Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a filmmaker, and what helped you get there?
From childhood, he tinkered with Super 8 and created early films, then built an effects company to enable Kronos, driven by a persistent belief in filmmaking as a necessary art and personal vocation.
Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk: The two sides of war
Q: Would Maersk welcome Navy escorts through the Strait of Hormuz or Red Sea?
Clerc says it could be a temporary reprieve if a robust, safe, and sustained shield is provided, but emphasizes that the solution must be safe for crews and ships and ultimately part of a broader pathway to reopen navigation.
