  • BBC needs to stand up for Britain

Ridiculous stories by rid7people who hate England and its people.

  • What a mistake

Whose idea was it to change this from the iconic Hard Talk with Legendary Stephen Sackur to The Interview. It needed some changes to stay relevant but I would have made it longer. The BBC needs to get with the programme. Realise the modern trend for long for listening especially in depth interviews is what was lacking. I would have given anything to hear Stephen for an hour to two hours really asking the hard questions of interviewees and giving them a real chance to answer in depth. What a loss... more

  • This was better than anything we have in Germany

Thank you ever so much for your service to the public Mr. Sackur.

As a German I am very enthusiastic about the way you pick your „guests“ brains and the way you do not let them get away with their prepared lines that they get away with everywhere else. Especially the non native speakers sometimes show their face behind the mask.

I hope you will be able to look behind the facades for a very long time to come….

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Winnie Byanyima, head of UNAids: I am somebody who fights for social justice and gender equality
Q: Do you feel your hands are tied by new U.S. policies on abortion and gender rights, and how do you navigate those restrictions while continuing to champion rights?
No; despite restrictions, we adapt and continue our work, arguing that human rights must be central to an effective health response, and seeking waivers or alternative funding to uphold rights-based HIV programs.
Winnie Byanyima, head of UNAids: I am somebody who fights for social justice and gender equality
Q: What has been the impact of the second Trump presidency on your work at UNAIDS?
The reduction in American foreign assistance disrupted HIV/AIDS programs, caused clinic closures and service gaps, but funding later partially restored with conditions that push recipient governments to self-fund the response and protect human rights while navigating policy constraints.
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, head of the WTO: What is going on in the Middle East will have a significant impact on trade
Q: Is the message about the value of open trade being heard given tensions among major blocs?
The guest argues that while big blocs have tensions, recognizing mutual interests and the benefits of cooperation is key, and progress comes from addressing what doesn't work and building consensus among diverse members.
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, head of the WTO: What is going on in the Middle East will have a significant impact on trade
Q: How do you convince governments to avoid protectionist policies when they feel vulnerable?
She emphasizes reminding policymakers of the long-run benefits of free and open trade, and cites the history of the system delivering broad gains and preventing a damaging tit-for-tat spiral.
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, head of the WTO: What is going on in the Middle East will have a significant impact on trade
Q: How difficult is it to grease the wheels of global trade right now?
She notes that the global trading system is under its greatest disruption in eight decades, but points out that many core WTO rules continue to provide stability and transparency, helping businesses plan despite uncertainty.
