  • What a mistake

Whose idea was it to change this from the iconic Hard Talk with Legendary Stephen Sackur to The Interview. It needed some changes to stay relevant but I would have made it longer. The BBC needs to get with the programme. Realise the modern trend for long for listening especially in depth interviews is what was lacking. I would have given anything to hear Stephen for an hour to two hours really asking the hard questions of interviewees and giving them a real chance to answer in depth. What a loss... more

  • This was better than anything we have in Germany

Thank you ever so much for your service to the public Mr. Sackur.

As a German I am very enthusiastic about the way you pick your „guests“ brains and the way you do not let them get away with their prepared lines that they get away with everywhere else. Especially the non native speakers sometimes show their face behind the mask.

I hope you will be able to look behind the facades for a very long time to come….

  • Embarrassing

Taking a fantastic programme like HardTalk and replacing it with random interviews from other programmes is the perfect example of the BBC offering less and less depth and value.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Henrique Capriles, Venezuelan opposition leader: What comes next for Venezuela?
Q: Given Chavismo's resistance, do you fear economic improvement and Trump meeting commercial needs could allow Delce Rodriguez to stay in power indefinitely?
That would not be change. And it would contradict what President Trump and Secretary Rubio have said.
Henrique Capriles, Venezuelan opposition leader: What comes next for Venezuela?
Q: You have long advocated dialogue and negotiation, but that strategy has often failed. Why would it work now?
Because failing to achieve peace doesn't mean you stop pursuing peace. These are convictions. We probably reached January 3rd because of so many failed processes.
Henrique Capriles, Venezuelan opposition leader: What comes next for Venezuela?
Q: What do you say to opposition members who see Delce Rodriguez emerging as a key figure of Chavismo now in power?
Only a few days have passed. We've waited for many years and Venezuelans won't settle for little. Nor should we.
Julie Inman Grant, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner: Keep kids away from social media until they are ready
Q: How difficult is implementing a ban you weren't initially a fan of?
I had to come around to it because we've been at this for 10 years trying to make the places safer.
Julie Inman Grant, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner: Keep kids away from social media until they are ready
Q: What do you see as success? Is it closing accounts, better mental health, finding big tech that's not complying?
Success can come in different ways and will come in different time frames. We're in this for the long game.
