  • Warren Pretorius

    This is my favorite podcast…

However, when Warren Pretorius ranted that those who say “all lives matter” instead of “black lives matter” “don’t get (their white privilege)” I turned off that podcast … the only one I didn’t listen to all the way through…

Maybe his comment is in the context/zeitgeist of apartheid SA?… however it makes no sense in contemporary America… this kind of apology breeds the cult of victimology which is scarring to all people…

Is there racism? … sure there are racists ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Building Locker Room Power
Q: Discipline and locker room power: how do you balance tough coaching with healthy development?
Discipline is about clear consequences and consistent expectations, but the best teachers avoid fear-based tactics and instead establish a predictable framework (like the five-minute rule) that teaches players to self-correct and return with purpose after a setback.
Discipline is Non-negotiable
Q: What do you think is the main difference between players now and players from your generation?
David suggests that the focus has shifted to individualism, with modern players being more self-driven but potentially losing some of the sense of teamwork and cultural connection that characterized earlier generations.
Discipline is Non-negotiable
Q: Did you ever entertain the possibility of playing college tennis in America?
David explains that during his generation, the trend was towards professional play, making college tennis less of an option at that time, though he now sees it as a valuable path.
Discipline is Non-negotiable
Q: Can you elaborate on the differences you experienced training in Caracas, Argentina, and Spain?
David highlights the cultural differences in training environments and the importance of how young players are viewed and supported in each location, emphasizing the need for a nurturing environment.
Discipline is Non-negotiable
Q: David, can you take us back to the beginning of your love affair with tennis?
David recounts starting tennis almost by accident at a club, initially following his sister who was a swimmer, and quickly developing a passion for the sport from a young age.
