  • Annoying

While there is some useful information potentially available, the bait and switch model of having most of the episode behind a pay wall feels very 2010. I would prefer that he use an ad model and monetize the way most modern podcasts do. This is especially so since the first 5-6 minutes of every episode is essentially advertising his own products/brand; hawking tennis camps, Tennis Tribe memberships and what feels like pure filler to tell us all the things he’s going to talk about (most of which... more

  • Please bring back the shot of the week analysis back

The shot of the week episodes you used to have were the germ. They help the rec. players the most. The recent direction promoting doubles is noble but the content is no longer as helpful or only 5 min tips out of an hour interview.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Return Deep Dive: The Best Targets, Backhands, Lobs, Handling Power, Spin, Variety, & More
Q: Sandra's question about returning against a variety of serves, including spin serves, flat serves, and kicks, was addressed with a plan to practice specific types and read the server's partner.
Develop a plan to recognize serve types quickly and adapt your return path accordingly, focusing on keeping the backswing short, staying balanced, and choosing the appropriate target (cross-court, down the line, or lob) based on the server's placement and the net-player's reaction.
Return Deep Dive: The Best Targets, Backhands, Lobs, Handling Power, Spin, Variety, & More
Q: Doug asked about improving his backhand returns from the deuce and ad courts and how to practice the variations effectively.
In the deuce court, train an inside-out backhand cross-court return with excellent footwork, and consider a chip lob to move the net player off balance; in the ad court, lean on a backhand cross-court return and be prepared to lob down the line when appropriate, always prioritizing early contact and controlling depth.
Return Deep Dive: The Best Targets, Backhands, Lobs, Handling Power, Spin, Variety, & More
Q: Jen asked how to consistently return serve and set up her partner, given she often uses a variety of returns from the ad court.
Focus on a reliable cross-court return with depth, supplemented by a lob return to pressure the net player; in the ad court, leverage a strong backhand cross court and keep your swing short to facilitate quicker, more accurate returns and better positioning for the next shot.
Albano Olivetti Interview: The 160 MPH Serve, Team Chemistry, Grass vs Clay, & More
Q: What role has your partnership with Theo played in your recent success?
Staying with Theo allowed us to build a shared game plan, leverage our complementary strengths (the tactical edge for Theo, elite serve and net play for me), and improve continuously as a unit rather than as individuals.
Albano Olivetti Interview: The 160 MPH Serve, Team Chemistry, Grass vs Clay, & More
Q: What sort of adjustments did you and Theo make when transitioning from clay to grass?
We focused on lowering the ball's bounce with improved movement, adopting a more efficient slice, and prioritizing net play and the partnership's coordination to stay competitive on grass.
