The war against Islamic Jihadism is defining generations. It was our father’s war, it’s our war, and will most likely be our children’s war. The FDD' s Long War Journal team has been researching and reporting for over two decades on the jihadists fueling this terror. “Generation Jihad” features LWJ Editor Bill Roggio as he diagnoses the black and white motivations behind the world’s most notorious... more

  • This should be required listening

This podcast is part of the solution needed as a requirement in all high schools and universities. The problem that needs to be solved is the indoctrination of teachers and college professors subject to Qatar’s decade long soft power influence campaign.

Update Jan. 2025. In the episode entitled Domestic Terrorism there is a suggestion that “stable family men don’t commit suicide attacks.” This is a similar claim Sam Harris often points to as fundamentally flawed. As he says, people in the west r... more

  • Please improve your tone

I’m giving this 3 stars because I support the Long War Journal and think everyone involved here does important work. But gentlemen, the tone has gotten absolutely unbearable. They guy who said “ever heard of Google” in the most recent episode is a child. You’re not funny and no one is listening to this to hear your jokes. Why can’t you just be professional and soberly address issues like an adult?

Dune: The Brotherhood Jihad
Q: What is the Muslim Brotherhood? What are its goals and how does it fit within that Sunni Islamist ecosystem? Is it a terrorist organization and is it realistic to seek to prescribe it?
Edmund explains that the Brotherhood is highly flexible and politically savvy, acting as the 'daddy' of many Islamist movements with a goal of shaping political life through a mix of social engagement and, in some contexts, violence, depending on the environment; its designation as a terrorist organization varies by location and is often driven by strategic considerations rather than a single universal definition.
Strait Strategy
Q: What would be a better path to deter Iran without provoking a broader war?
Build up regional defenses, coordinate with European allies, and pursue a credible, multi-pronged strategy that links economic pressure with political messaging and support for Iranian civil society, while keeping options for escalation clearly in view but not used as a first resort.
Strait Strategy
Q: Do you think the Trump administration should decouple the Strait of Hormuz blockade from the nuclear issue?
Decoupling would be a tactical win but a strategic loss, because it risks letting Iran keep nuclear priorities as leverage while signaling weakness on broader pressures; the pair should be kept linked to avoid giving Tehran a free pass on either front.
Gridlock at the Strait
Q: What would have been a more effective approach at the outset to keep the Strait open?
A more proactive approach would have involved earlier deployment of allied escorts, extended blockade planning, and securing overflight rights and support from regional partners to prevent ships from being stalled.
Gridlock at the Strait
Q: In your estimation, are we witnessing the battle of the Strait of Hormuz, or is that hyperbole?
We're looking at a determination of how the Strait will be split—north and south lanes—so it's less about a single battle and more about how control over the passage is exercised by both sides.
