  • Galen is an absolute dream

GD politics is everything you need and want in a true political podcast. Moderate, focused on the numbers, rigorously edited by Galen himself, and naturally funny. He brings the facts. He does not yell or show frustration in policies he doesn’t agree with. You can tell Galen is friends with a lot of the guests and their chemistry shines through. What a wonderful person and show.

Why do you do podcasts right before an election night that are basically pointless to listen to after the election. Just do a podcast when the results come in.

Example the nyc primary podcast you should have done it after the election not before.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Democrats Are Favored. But By How Much?
Q: And why is that, by the way? Is it just that it weights the different polls differently? Doesn't it consider some polls?
Different forecasting methods weigh polls differently and apply various adjustments; DDHQ emphasizes a straightforward averaging approach without house-effects adjustments, while other forecasters may use smoother methods and incorporate more poll-type adjustments or market data.
Why Europe’s Politics Keep Breaking
Q: What do the polls show about Marine Le Pen's chances and how might that shape the runoff?
Le Pen is polling around the mid-30s, leading the field and likely to reach a runoff, with Centrists and Mélenchon or Glucksmann as potential opponents; outcomes depend on who remains in the race and possible endorsements, but her odds look strong for a head-to-head matchup.
Why Europe’s Politics Keep Breaking
Q: Before we get too deep into the horse race and the polling in France right now, how would you describe the factions of French politics today, Lenny?
Factions are best understood by a three-pole framework: the far right (National Rally), a centrist bloc around Macron's Renaissance, and a fractured left led by Mélenchon, with the traditional Socialist Party diminished; this fragmentation has intensified, especially as Macron consolidated the center while the left and right reconfigure.
America At 250: Polarized, But Not 50-50
Q: Gabe, first question, can you explain America to me?
Easy. Do you have 250 years? (summarized: Gabe begins outlining the significance of 250 years of American history and frames the discussion around whether current sentiment reflects long-term trends or short-term reactions.)
What Does 'Liberal' Even Mean Anymore?
Q: What does liberalism do with people who use liberal freedoms to destroy liberal institutions?
The discussion acknowledges the difficulty and cites examples like Germany's AFD, arguing that in some cases platform-sharing with extreme groups may be necessary to civilize politics, while in others a firm boundary is needed to protect liberal institutions.
