  • Galen is an absolute dream

GD politics is everything you need and want in a true political podcast. Moderate, focused on the numbers, rigorously edited by Galen himself, and naturally funny. He brings the facts. He does not yell or show frustration in policies he doesn’t agree with. You can tell Galen is friends with a lot of the guests and their chemistry shines through. What a wonderful person and show.

  • Excellent, sane politics podcast

One of the highlights of my week. Great replacement for the 538 podcast. Highly recommend joining the Patreon, it’s worth it.

Why do you do podcasts right before an election night that are basically pointless to listen to after the election. Just do a podcast when the results come in.

Example the nyc primary podcast you should have done it after the election not before.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Millennials Are Taking Over American Politics
Q: Would you compare this moment for Democrats to what the Tea Party was for Republicans and the rise of Trump?
Not directly equivalent, but there is an insurgent energy within the Democrats similar to a Tea Party‑like disruption; however, Trump's path is not a perfect template for Democratic dynamics. The Tea Party helped redefine the Republican Party by pushing establishment candidates to earn votes from a dissatisfied base, a mechanism that also appears in some Democratic circles as younger voters push for more aggressive progressive policies.
Millennials Are Taking Over American Politics
Q: How is that thesis holding up in this moment?
The view remains that millennials are not economically conservative at heart while being socially progressive, and this dual stance is still visible in their voting patterns and party identification, though the specifics have shifted with events like the 2024 election and post‑pandemic attitudes.
Will Wisconsin Elect A Democratic Socialist?
Q: Craig, is that good data, bad data or not data?
The Crowley internal poll attempted adjustments for age makeup to reflect the electorate voting in 2022, which tied Hong and Crowley at 32 percent after adjustment; the segment suggests the data is contested and not definitive, highlighting the gap between campaign messaging and polling.
Democrats Are Favored. But By How Much?
Q: And why is that, by the way? Is it just that it weights the different polls differently? Doesn't it consider some polls?
Different forecasting methods weigh polls differently and apply various adjustments; DDHQ emphasizes a straightforward averaging approach without house-effects adjustments, while other forecasters may use smoother methods and incorporate more poll-type adjustments or market data.
Why Europe’s Politics Keep Breaking
Q: What do the polls show about Marine Le Pen's chances and how might that shape the runoff?
Le Pen is polling around the mid-30s, leading the field and likely to reach a runoff, with Centrists and Mélenchon or Glucksmann as potential opponents; outcomes depend on who remains in the race and possible endorsements, but her odds look strong for a head-to-head matchup.
