  • Good Show But Annoying Teasers

I like the show but getting a 20 min teaser every other episode is just annoying. I’m unsubscribing until there is an ad supported version or there are less previews.

  • Frustrating

538 was always one of my favorite podcasts and GD politics is very good for the amount of time you can listen. It’s very fond of putting up very short teases and then asking you to pay for full shows. No show with ads is available for those of us who can’t afford a subscription. I went from listening to every episode to now seriously considering unfollowing.

  • I’m Done

Whoops. We almost started to care about young men. Glad Galen was able to jump in and help put a stop to that.

  • An upgrade!

Like many others, I was very sad about 538 shutting down. GD Politics has been a welcome continuation of the 538 podcast, but even better now that Galen is on his own. I think the show has benefited from more creative freedom, variety, and being able to hear Galen’s point of view more front and center. Galen was always an excellent host but this podcast has showed that he’s also an excellent analyst and commentator as well. Thanks Galen!

  • I thought it was over…

…but it’s not! I was wondering what went on with the Texas primaries and had Galen’s voice in my head narrating what happened and, here we are! Thanks for keeping this going yall!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

America At 250: Polarized, But Not 50-50
Q: Gabe, first question, can you explain America to me?
Easy. Do you have 250 years? (summarized: Gabe begins outlining the significance of 250 years of American history and frames the discussion around whether current sentiment reflects long-term trends or short-term reactions.)
What Does 'Liberal' Even Mean Anymore?
Q: What does liberalism do with people who use liberal freedoms to destroy liberal institutions?
The discussion acknowledges the difficulty and cites examples like Germany's AFD, arguing that in some cases platform-sharing with extreme groups may be necessary to civilize politics, while in others a firm boundary is needed to protect liberal institutions.
What Does 'Liberal' Even Mean Anymore?
Q: Let's start with the basics. What is liberalism?
Adrian describes liberalism as a framework centered on individualism, skepticism about authority, and worry about power, allowing for diverse communities and a constitution-bound order that protects rights while enabling pluralism.
Do Fed-Up Americans Really Move To Canada? And Other Listener Questions
Q: Greg asks how likely voter models are made and whether they are backward-looking or account for changes in the electorate.
The host explains that likely voter models primarily rely on current self-reported voting intentions, augmented by historical data to estimate past voting behavior and create a turnout score, with thresholds determining inclusion in the model.
The Dollar’s Strange, Fragile Power
Q: Can I actually step in for just a second and ask maybe more of a political question?
Brendan explains that the push for more political oversight of the Fed, especially of swap lines, is driven by concerns among Congress and Treasury about maintaining the dollar's stability and political accountability.
