  • Much appreciated and anticipated

While I still enjoy the podcast, please find someone in addition to Christy Page for “the last word” segment. I stop listening when I get to her. How about asking the listeners for submissions?

  • Native plant fallacies

The guest mischaracterizes non native plants, conflating invasive plants with volunteers not acknowledging that they escaped from home gardens, that they outcompete native plants because they don’t have predators and the relationship between native fauna, fungi and soils. Her use of the terms “wildlife” and “adapted” are misingenuous and focus on the winners that utilize non natives, and not the losers that can’t.

  • Anti Native Plants

Garden DC had a guest that spread unscientific and false information about native plants. If you don’t want to garden with natives, that is your business. However, giving a platform to someone who spreads false information about the benefits of non-native invasives is irresponsible. I’m disappointed that someone would give a platform to someone who promotes plants that harm the native ecosystem. Really, it’s disgusting.

  • Irresponsible about natives

This podcast host feels no responsibility to discuss the importance of using native plants in the garden. Entire shows recommend non-native species and praise “what vigorous growers” they are. For Japanese Anemone the suggestion was to “pot it up” and give it to a neighbor! Japanese Anemone is invasive in some states. I definitely do not have all native plants in my yard, but I try to pay attention to the importance of natives in my yard and would never give a neighbor an aggressive non native ... more

Hot Trends in Bulbs
Q: How should gardeners approach planting timing and depth for spring bulbs in this region?
Plant after the ground starts to cool and when leaves are turning color; depth should generally be two and a half to three times the bulb height, with larger bulbs like tulips sometimes going eight to ten inches deep to avoid cratering and rodent issues.
Hot Trends in Bulbs
Q: What are Jenny Rose Carey's favorite bulbs, and why do they stand out for her in mid-Atlantic gardens?
Her top picks include Snowdrops for winter resilience, followed by a strong preference for daffodils due to their diversity and long early-season bloom, and then dahlias for summer color and cutting gardens, with a preference for bulbs that offer year-round interest.
Personalizing Your Landscape Design
Q: How do you approach HOAs and plant palette restrictions in new developments?
He describes pushing boundaries with documented justifications, photos, and education of boards; sometimes achieving exceptions, and always aiming to align with client goals while navigating community guidelines.
Personalizing Your Landscape Design
Q: Tell me about Revolutionary Gardens and how you came up with the name.
Dave explains the name blends his approach to doing things differently with the area's history, using a regional nod to Culpeper and Revolutionary War heritage, and highlights their focus on design and installation for clients around Northern Virginia.
New Plants and Products for 2026
Q: Tell us about some of the most exciting plant introductions and why they matter.
Key introductions included LeafJoy's houseplants and the Year of the Azalea campaigns, Garden District's affordable lines leveraging breeder Michael Durér's work, Firefly Petunia's new class and its potential uses, and the Martha Stewart Rose line. The discussion also covered cool new seed products, sustainable packaging, and the potential for these plants to perform well in regional climates.
