  • The only Private Capital podcast that I listen/watch to the end.

Fund Shack is the only private markets podcast I consistently listen to all the way through. The guests are high quality, the conversations are insightful, and the technical depth is excellent.

If you work in private equity, private credit or the wider private capital ecosystem this is essential listening. It is also becoming a great resource for RIAs, private bankers and advisers who want to get up the curve on private markets.

    It’s one to binge on!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Private Equity in 2026: Why “12 is the new five” | Emilio Domingo, Bain & Company
Q: What are the two readings of the Bain & Company report's implications for private equity going forward?
Emilio argues that there are secular trends making both a recovery and a tighter, more demanding environment possible, with deal values up and exits up, but overall returns hinge on players' ability to raise their game and leverage scale, governance, and value-creation capabilities to outperform public markets.
What NAV Is Really Signalling in Private Markets | Alex Branton, Nodem Capital
Q: Can you explain how the NAV loan concept compares to a dividend recap at the fund level, and why that distinction matters for LPs and GPs?
NAV loans function like a debt tool against the NAV of the fund's portfolio, allowing liquidity without forcing a sale of assets; dividends recaps at the fund level encumber underlying assets and can affect cash flow and risk differently. The distinction matters because NAV loans preserve upside while enabling liquidity, whereas dividend recaps can add strain on portfolio companies and affect distributions.
Venture Capital, National Security, and the Future of Technology | Alex van Someren
Q: How do you see the relationship between government funding and private venture capital in advancing dual-use technologies?
Governments bankroll foundational and strategic tech, while venture capital accelerates development and commercialisation; the model is a double-hander that can reduce risk for the country and help scale innovations that are useful in both civilian and defense contexts.
Venture Capital, National Security, and the Future of Technology | Alex van Someren
Q: So what drew you to the role of UK Chief Scientific Advisor for National Security in 2021?
The idea that government needs advice from people in technical industry is smart and builds smarter decision-making for procurement, technology investments, and future preparedness; NSIF bridges venture experience with national needs to accelerate secure tech.
Goldman Sachs & The Expanding Role of Private Markets in Wealth Portfolios
Q: What does your role as Global Head of Alternatives for Third Party Wealth entail?
It involves delivering Goldman's alternative investing expertise to a broad global wealth channel, combining deep direct investing with an open architecture platform to select top non-Goldman managers and provide clients with a full spectrum of private markets exposure.
