From First Principles is a fast, funny, and rigorous breakdown of the biggest science stories of the week, hosted by Lester Nare and physicist Krishna Choudhary, PhD. We go past headlines into the actual mechanics: what happened, why it matters, and what everyone’s missing. Expect physics, space, AI, energy, biotech, and the occasional “wait… is that real?” story. If you’re curious, skeptical, and... more

Each episode breaks down major science news and discoveries in a clear and engaging way. What really makes it work is the balance between the hosts. Lester brings curiosity and thoughtful questions while Krishna provides deep expertise and an ability to explain complex ideas from the ground up without oversimplifying or losing important nuance. As a result the science is easy to follow and genuinely interesting. I always walk away feeling smarter and more curious.
Good to see the uptake in interest. I’ve been looking for a show like this for a while. Objective unbiased reviews of scientific papers. I appreciate the deep dives too, more than I expected, but I’d try to remind the creators that going into the history and consequent ownership of terms, ideas is etc. is somewhat antithetical to the idea of “from first principles “. Try to keep your podcast’s title in mind. Maybe do deep dives from that perspective? Hopefully y’all won’t get too caught up in th... more
I’ve been searching for a science podcast for a while now and came across this pod and I’ve been been hooked ever since. Lester and Krishna really know what they are talking about and have incredible talent in taking complex scientific research and simplifying it to a level where it is easy to understand without introducing bias in their delivery and just letting the science speak for itself. Their passion and excitement for the topics they discuss is contagious. The deep dives are incredible. E... more
Love this pod! A great little dive into the top science stories, in an accessible way. I’ve been looking for a podcast like this for a while!
Loving the podcast just two episodes in…really enjoy the interplay between co-hosts and they do a great job being accessible while technical.
I met Dr. Watson in 2004 when he came to DC to lobby for Cold Spring. I recall there being controversy around his Bell Jar type comments but didn’t realize it was this bad. His treatment of Franklin is of course unforgivable. Still a giant of science but yeah, a racist ego-driven creep, too. Great episode.
