But Ed’s heard a rumour: that in 1970, while defending the title, his granddad, his hero, was poisoned… by the CIA. All part of a Cold War plot to bolster a military dictatorship in Latin America, supposedly. Could this possibly be true? Banks did get ill... more

It’s a mildly interesting conspiracy theory, but the “investigation” is about as rigorous as Ancient Aliens, and at the end of the day you’re listening to hours of people talking about someone’s grandfather’s diarrhea.
I remember the ‘66 win and Gordon Banks’ skills , but never was a football fan so forgotten the following World Cup problems -strangely this added to an enjoyable listen! A good story well told.
I enjoyed this 100%. The story telling was ON POINT! Thanks!!!
This was such a wonderful ride! I’m not even a fan of soccer and this had me on the edge of my seat. Great journalism and a job well done!
Brilliant podcast. A lot of conjecture and fine stories, expertly told but ….
Sounds like Gordon Banks and Bobby Moore had a piss up in there room days before match (like all working class lads would).
