  • Like water to a thirsty soul

A much needed forum for restoring the increasingly thin and superficial public theology or our times. How can we know what is right & how we should live without wrestling with the tenets of our faith in real time? Listening to these thoughtful discussions give me hope.

  • Exquisitely thought-provoking

They cover topics of faith and culture today that are nuanced and important. Actually this podcast gives me a model for how to how to think at a deeper level and discuss tricky things more patiently.

  • One of my favourite except…

I have one problem w this podcast. I am sensitive to really high pitched sounds (a common issue with those of us who experience neurodiversity) and the musical intro and transitions have this nails-on-chalkboard electronic squeaky noise going on in it… I have tried to tolerate it but I’ve finally decided to leave a review. I have avoided the podcast at times because I know it will be an unpleasant experience. But if you could just change that sound, even slightly, this would be a more accessible... more

How to Read Ecclesiastes: Absurdity, Futility, and the Simple Value of Life / Jesse Peterson
Q: What else do we need to know about authorship and the representation of this convener?
Traditionally it was thought to be Solomon, but scholarly consensus now places the composition in the third century BCE, with the possibility of a later editor shaping the ending to fit Torah and biblical context.
How to Read Ecclesiastes: Absurdity, Futility, and the Simple Value of Life / Jesse Peterson
Q: Why did you choose this particular project? What does it mean to you? And what's your personal history with the Book of Ecclesiastes?
I was drawn to Ecclesiastes because it is deeply philosophical and centers on meaning in life, and my personal journey led me to pair its themes with contemporary value theory to understand how people live well in light of life's inescapable uncertainties.
The Accessorized Bible: Interpretation, Responsibility, and the Ethics of Reading / David Dault
Q: What does it mean for the Bible to be a platform, not just a book?
A platform allows additions and curation (study notes, children's illustrations) that change the reading experience, highlighting that readers shape interpretation and moral implications.
The Accessorized Bible: Interpretation, Responsibility, and the Ethics of Reading / David Dault
Q: Are you reading your Bible in translation or the originary languages in a trusted community?
Reading with trusted community and careful translation practices is essential to avoid violence or misrepresentation; it centers responsibility on readers, not on the text alone.
Your Whole Self at Work: The Sociology of Religion in the Workplace / Elaine Ecklund
Q: Why did you choose to study the workplace?
Ecklund became curious about how faith dynamics in workplaces other than science correlate.
