I enjoyed listening to the conversation on the podcast for Nov 1, 2025. I have often thought about the American view of WW1, and the lack of emphasis and attention to the conflict. Being from the South, I firmly believe that the American Civil War was the main thought and concern for the South. Despite the passage of decades, the Civil War was still ever present. Even today, there are many examples of the influence it had,and has, on the Southern culture. These examples are not necessarily, and ... more

  • Outstanding Series

There are a number of quality Great War podcasts & “Footsteps of the Fallen” certainly rates among the very best. Matt covers a wide array of topics but always emphasizes the role of the individual soldier & the effects the conflict had on the person. Top flight podcast, well worth a listen & a follow.

  • An excellent, fascinating podcast

As someone whose knowledge of the Great War was largely based on growing up watching Blackadder Goes Forth, this podcast has been a real eye-opener and I’m so glad I discovered it by chance. Matt is an excellent host and his considered, thoughtful style really helps bring the topic, which is at times grim, to life in an accessible but engaging fashion. Not to mention, he’s been very helpful in tracing family history during the conflict. A great collection of badges too!
