  • Delightfully informative and a little spooky

My favorite podcast currently! Manages to walk the line of being very cozy and a little spooky, while also covering lots of information. I personally don’t know much about English folklore, so I’ve loved hearing the stories and listening to Justin and Tim discuss them. Also really enjoy the guest interviews as well -- I learn something new each episode!

  • A folk gem!

I love this podcast - the rambling pace, humour and obscure references to 1970s afternoon folk horror shows for kids pair well with the folk investigations and the music and readings work really well so you can ‘see’ what you hear.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A Whitby Wander
Q: How does Whitby's landscape contribute to the gothic atmosphere described in Dracula?
The hosts describe the cliffs, mist, abbey ruins, and the narrow, winding streets as a tangible stage for gothic mood, making the town itself a character that amplifies the feeling of otherworldliness central to Dracula and broader folk horror.
The Dalby Spook
Q: Do you think there's any connection between satyrs and other sort of hominid, yeti type creatures, or that's a completely different thing?
Some of the early Greek representations of them, they don't have horns and hooves.
The Dalby Spook
Q: Is there any suggestion then that they built a house somewhere where the fairies, the spirits, had some sort of grounding already?
I've never heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me.
The Day of the Druids
Q: What drew you particularly to it?
The outdoor ritual and the poetic words of the ritual are very beautiful and meaningful.
Hellfire & Damnation part 1
Q: Have you been down there many times on your own?
I do cave checks at the end of every day to make sure no one's down there, and when you join, they make you do it on your own. It's terrifying.
