  • Excellent pod!

I just moved to Florida and I am so glad I found this show!

It has helped me understand trail community in the state and believe that I can continue to run mountain ultras even while living in perhaps the flattest part of the country.

    Keep up the great work!

  • Love this podcast

Joseph does a great job covering the Florida trail races and Florida runners. Love hearing from all different experience levels. Really love the shows with multiple runners from the same race - Joseph asks them questions but also just lets them chat together about their experiences. So informative and entertaining. And he gets the episodes up quick - lots of times before the lactic acid has even cleared out! Thanks Joseph!

  • Awesome podcast!

I found this podcast by searching for resources to get prepared for my first 100 miler, the Long Haul 100. I got hooked ever since then! Joe does a great job with it. He noticed there was a demand for information about Florida trail races, and he has done excellent in meeting that demand. I always look forward to hearing new episodes!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#119: Jon Reid and the Big Scrub 150
Q: How did you two get into trail and ultra running?
Both share diverse backgrounds and a path into the sport through service, military and community activities, eventually finding trail running as a meaningful way to connect with others and rural Florida landscapes.
#129: Carl Gilley and The Tick
Q: What was your biggest takeaway from the Skunk Ape DNF experience?
The key lesson was to prioritize enjoyment and the community over winning; selfish要 pursuits can derail a race, and humility and resilience are crucial for bouncing back in later events.
#129: Carl Gilley and The Tick
Q: How did sobriety influence your racing and mindset?
Three years sober gave him a new sense of freedom and purpose, transforming racing into a positive, life-affirming activity rather than a personal test, and helping him channel energy into training and recovery.
#122: Stories from the 2026 Long Play Trail Run
Q: Oh, no, absolutely not. And I guess we can kind of kick it off with some backgrounds, those introductions, you know, like who y'all are and how did you get into running?
Each guest shares their path into running, from early athletic roots and CrossFit to discovering ultrarunning through personal stories, injuries, and a growing community of runners. They emphasize how ultras became a focus after experimenting with shorter distances and encountering supportive peers.
125: Jordon Englund
Q: What was the biggest surprise about completing Space Pirate 100 and moving into longer distances like Skunk Ape 100?
The surprise was how much the longer distances reveal about pacing, fueling, and the importance of a solid crew; the later miles require a different kind of mental and physical strategy, especially when the course is tougher than the previous ones.
