  • Helpful, but a little out of touch

I really appreciate all the helpful insight and resources offered by your podcast, but I feel it’s often missing the mark as the current job market is so fraught with unique challenges that are not always reflected in your conversations. I’d like to see less subjective advice and more concrete tips about how to survive and navigate the current economic reality in 2026.

  • Disappointed😔

Just disappointed by your guest Nikki Schutte!

    Quote:

“It’s really hard to get to know somebody through a first interview or even a second or third interview. And I think that we all want to rely on things that help us make the right decision … [by] another interaction that somebody might have had with that person.”

If that’s the case, then please tell the thousands of job seekers why post the job online and make us go through the entire process of resume submission, screening, and multiple ... more

  • In my top 10 of career podcasts

Although I still believe that the “dream job” is a myth, listening to this podcast is helping me dream of a great a job and a purposeful career. Each episode has an encouraging perspective. Mac also has a great voice for radio. His voice reminds me of Casey Kasem, which is soothing and nostalgic for me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How to Own the Room in a Job Interview, with Rachel Beohm
Q: You've mentioned mindset a few times. Why is mindset so critical in getting ready and owning the room during a job interview?
Mindset reframes the interview as a conversation rather than an interrogation, helps you see yourself as someone who belongs there, and keeps you grounded in your values and long-term goals even when faced with nerves or rejection.
How to Own the Room in a Job Interview, with Rachel Beohm
Q: What does it mean to own the room, and how does one demonstrate that to the interviewer or panel?
Owning the room means being comfortable in the space, acknowledging the whole room (including all panel members), making eye contact, and projecting presence and energy so that you appear confident and capable of handling the role.
How to Own the Room in a Job Interview, with Rachel Beohm
Q: Walking into a job interview is scary for most of us. What's the most important step listeners can take before going through that door?
The most important step is to prepare mentally: take a moment to breathe, remind yourself of who you are and how you want to show up, plan your key messages, and be ready for potential questions.
What to Do When You Don’t Know What You Want to Do, with Steven Rothberg
Q: Why should job seekers narrow their search to roles that match their competencies, interests, and values rather than applying widely?
Because targeting well-mitted roles increases the chance of interviews and long-term retention, avoiding the inefficiency and reduced impact of shotgun applications.
What to Do When You Don’t Know What You Want to Do, with Steven Rothberg
Q: What's the best first step to answer what you want to do when you don't know what you want to do?
Steven recommends a structured exercise: create three columns for competencies, interests, and values, list everything in each category (even seemingly irrelevant things), then blur your eyes and look for overlaps to find your sweet spot.
