  • Helpful, but a little out of touch

I really appreciate all the helpful insight and resources offered by your podcast, but I feel it’s often missing the mark as the current job market is so fraught with unique challenges that are not always reflected in your conversations. I’d like to see less subjective advice and more concrete tips about how to survive and navigate the current economic reality in 2026.

  • Disappointed😔

Just disappointed by your guest Nikki Schutte!

    Quote:

“It’s really hard to get to know somebody through a first interview or even a second or third interview. And I think that we all want to rely on things that help us make the right decision … [by] another interaction that somebody might have had with that person.”

If that’s the case, then please tell the thousands of job seekers why post the job online and make us go through the entire process of resume submission, screening, and multiple ... more

  • In my top 10 of career podcasts

Although I still believe that the “dream job” is a myth, listening to this podcast is helping me dream of a great a job and a purposeful career. Each episode has an encouraging perspective. Mac also has a great voice for radio. His voice reminds me of Casey Kasem, which is soothing and nostalgic for me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Stop Saying “I Can Do Anything,” with Shannon Bloom
Q: Why is saying I can do anything a poor strategy for a job search?
Because it dilutes focus, makes it hard for others to know how to help, and can prolong the search by attracting broad, unfocused opportunities rather than roles that fit the person's true strengths and ambitions.
Building Meaningful Matches in Talent Acquisition: Joy Reimer’s Job Search Success Story
Q: What is your number one job-hunting tip?
Be persistent, stay positive, don't get discouraged, and keep messaging and networking—trust your instincts and move on if a situation doesn't feel right, always looking for the right fit.
Building Meaningful Matches in Talent Acquisition: Joy Reimer’s Job Search Success Story
Q: What LinkedIn habits do you practice regularly?
I don't post a lot, but I keep a consistent presence by liking or sharing posts, looking for common ground, and actively expanding my network through networking events and direct outreach whenever possible.
Building Meaningful Matches in Talent Acquisition: Joy Reimer’s Job Search Success Story
Q: Joy, how did you first learn about this position, the one you have now at Century West?
A recruiter reached out in a way that felt almost fated; after the initial interview, I connected on LinkedIn, and months later when I saw the recruiter post that someone was leaving, I leveraged that connection to pursue the opening, leading to a phone interview and eventually the job.
A Recruiter Shares Her Hiring Secrets, with Claire Martin
Q: How can candidates use AI positively in their job search?
Candidates can use AI to help format their answers clearly and concisely while maintaining their authentic experiences.
