  • Infectious fun, smart, inspiring

Such a pleasure to listen and so much fun to get to hear the insights of the filmmakers and industry players with their hair down, pressure off , dishing about how it all went down.

  • A perfect look into what went wrong

And that’s so right. I love the idea of hearing from people that took a hit (a blow) and learned from it. And what fun for the guests (and us) to get a look at what could be thanks to some clever AI trailer making of something that never was. It comes to life in front of their eyes and lends a new perspective that sparks great conversations from the cutting room floor.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

I Need Love: LL Cool J & Kool Moe Dee Love Story
Q: Michael, what's non-negotiable when pitching with real names and music rights on the line?
The real historical capsule and emotional core are non-negotiable for me, so I'd resist changing the core facts or the energy of the public rivalry; the aim is to present it as a fairy tale with the heat of real history, not为了fictionalization that erases the essence.
How to Tame a Fox with Heidi Ewing
Q: What's the approach to casting and visuals for a story with talking foxes?
They discuss a mix of real foxes for authenticity and animatronic/VFX for magical realism moments, with an emphasis on a warmer color palette and atmospheric, historically grounded visuals rather than a stark, overly grim aesthetic.
How to Tame a Fox with Heidi Ewing
Q: Tell us about How to Tame a Fox and how it started.
Heidi explains optioning the book during COVID, outlining the story of Lyudmila and Dmitri in 1950s Russia, and developing it into a pilot before realizing it was a long shot to greenlight, yet the project remains evergreen with potential attachments.
American Prometheus: The Other Oppenheimer
Q: What was the main artistic focus of your adaptation versus the original film about Oppenheimer?
The core story was the second half of Oppenheimer's life, especially the 1950s security hearing, which I treated as a Shakespearean tragedy and sought to explore the political and personal consequences rather than rehash the bomb itself.
American Prometheus: The Other Oppenheimer
Q: Most of our audience probably does know what it means. But when you option a book, what exactly are you doing and what did the studio do before you got to do it?
An option is an agreement granting a filmmaker the rights to adapt a work, with a time limit and usually a payment; if the project isn't produced within the term, rights revert to the owner, which can create lucrative revenue for IP holders even if a specific film never gets made.
