  • Probably the only watch media that hasn’t been bought

In a sea of watch podcasts that self-censor for fear of pissing off the brands, this podcast is truly refreshing. Love the honesty in these discussions — nothing about them is performative so it is a nice window into what the real watch community is talking about amongst themselves. As a result, there are a lot of valuable insights to glean from these episodes no matter what level of watch collector you are.

  • Why isn’t this 110% more popular?

Undoubtedly the best watch podcast out there. An interesting mix of knowledgeable enthusiasts who know more than the professionals and watchmakers who just drink themselves into an early grave while occasionally mentioning watches. This network really has something for everyone. Special mention to Robe & the Regulator and Independent Thinking with Roman.

  • Best watch podcast out there - UNDERRATED

Fifth Wrist is incredibly entertaining and also very informative. It is an international variety show with lots of different hosts, each with their own theme. Most watch podcasts are super boring, constantly shining the knob of Rolex/Patek/AP/Swatch Group — instead Fifth Wrist shines a light on the rich world of independent watch producers, though the majors are still making appearances too of course. It’s refreshing to hear from actual watchmakers and deeply knowledgeable enthusiasts that actua... more

  • Intriguing listening for the uninitiated

Much like vodka made from milk, this podcast is surprisingly surprising. 1 star for the interview itself, 1 star for Micheal passing out and 3 stars for the Scot with the sexy voice who was itching to disagree JCB. I understood approximately 25% of what they spoke about, but was nevertheless entertained.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Independent Thinking - Daryn Schnipper (Chairman Emeritus - Sotheby’s International Watch Division)
Q: How have times of crisis affected auction behavior and consignment strategies?
Crises tend to drive interest in tangible assets; sales can be resilient if the items are well-curated and the cataloging is robust, though sometimes lead times or access to property can change due to external events.
Independent Thinking - Daryn Schnipper (Chairman Emeritus - Sotheby’s International Watch Division)
Q: What role does a collector's history play in Sotheby's handling of a piece like the Olmsted collection?
The collector's deliberate focus on precision time and complications, plus long-term dedication, informs how the catalog is built, how stories are told, and how the pieces are presented to potential buyers.
Independent Thinking - Daryn Schnipper (Chairman Emeritus - Sotheby’s International Watch Division)
Q: How do you weigh a watch's value beyond price or fame when assessing it for inclusion in a sale?
Value comes from a combination of tactile feel, maker, rarity, historical narrative, and the watch's condition and originality; it's about how the watch communicates its story as much as its technical specs.
Independent Thinking - @Reigi_Timepieces with Julli Huikkonen
Q: What do you want Reigi Watches to represent?
I want Reigi to express the hardness of martial arts and provide watches that embody courage and personal connections.
Independent Thinking - @Reigi_Timepieces with Julli Huikkonen
Q: What inspired you to enter the watchmaking field?
A conversation during Christmas with my wife sparked my interest in watchmaking after struggling with personal challenges, leading me to pursue this passion.
