  • Great Podcast - Terrible French Accent

In general, I love the podcast. Keep it coming. But, can Andy please stop with the horrific French pronunciations? They are so tortured and overwrought. Andy is terrific otherwise, but please, no môr.

  • Great Pod, Less Malaika

Malaika is a real weak spot in this podcast. I enjoy her articles, but her tendency to interrupt and ramble makes her a poor podcast guest.

  • Love the Podcast—But Let’s Talk Backes & Strauss

    Hey Hodinkee Team,

Huge fan of the podcast—it’s the perfect mix of deep horology and great storytelling. But can we get some tea on Backes & Strauss? They’ve got the world’s oldest diamond company cred, ties to Franck Muller, and some wild designs—what’s their real place in modern watchmaking?

    Keep up the great work!

I’ve listened to the podcast from the beginning, but Malaika’s interruptions of other hosts and content are horrible.

Q: How will production and distribution be affected, and what improvements can we expect for Lorier's availability?

The Business of Watches [034] Inside Lorier Watches' Acquisition With Lorenzo Ortega And Blake Malin
Q: Will this be the start of a broader acquisition strategy for Worn & Wound, or a singular collaboration with Lorier?
The guests say this is currently a one-off but acknowledge that future opportunities could arise if the model proves successful and authentic, while stressing that they want to demonstrate capability first before announcing more acquisitions.
The Business of Watches [034] Inside Lorier Watches' Acquisition With Lorenzo Ortega And Blake Malin
Q: What changes for Lorier and Lorenzo personally and professionally with this transition?
Lorenzo describes a transition phase while they set up the new structure, emphasizing respect for the brand and a focus on making core collections widely available. The plan includes appointing a general manager (Ilya Ryvin) and maintaining Lorier as a distinct entity within Worn & Wound's ecosystem, enabling the creative team to concentrate more on design.
The Business of Watches [034] Inside Lorier Watches' Acquisition With Lorenzo Ortega And Blake Malin
Q: What does it mean for Worn & Wound to acquire an actual brand, and why pursue this path instead of continuing to partner with independent brands?
The executives explain that acquiring Lorier gives centralized capabilities—production management, fulfillment, and scale—while preserving Lorier's identity and editorial independence. It's framed as a way to ensure the brand remains accessible and well-supported, rather than dissolving into third-party partnerships, with Lorier continuing under its own leadership within a new ownership structure.
The Business of Watches [030] Q&A Episode - Your Business Questions Answered By The Hodinkee Team
Q: Bobby G asks about mono-brand boutiques versus multi-brand boutiques and the K-shaped retail trend.
The discussion covers how some brands are consolidating to mono-brand stores for tighter control, while others continue multi-brand distributions to reach new customers; the balance depends on brand strategy, market, and access to customers, with some markets showing a swing back toward multi-brand presence as the market evolves.
