  • Male dominated

Given the large number of female fans nowadays, is disappointing that this podcast regularly gets 4 male speakers, no women. Come on, please do better! In addition Tom Clarkson has an extremely unnatural way of speaking which can grate.

  • AJ and Crew commentary

Listening to F2/3 I was blown away by Alex and was excited to hear him when he was boosted to F1. He has an uncanny sporting excitement level ebb and flow. I do miss the DC/MB/TK/KC sound but I always default to AJs cast. However, he loses the award of Best Modern Play by Play to JP/SC and WB during P2 Australia’22 when the Marshall was lured into dipping a toe into turn 12. Brilliant commentary on what thankfully wasn’t a tragic shunt. Lesson to Jaquesy: keep your commentary out of the gravel,... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

F1 Explains: how drivers reach F1 – with Juan Pablo Montoya
Q: Now Juan Pablo, we're talking about the journey into Formula 1, of course. You started racing carts in Colombia, then moved to Europe. Why did you initially make that move?
The move was driven by a need to find better competition and training environments; competing in world championships in Colombia helped me learn, but testing and developing in Europe exposed me to higher levels and opportunities.
F1 Explains: Race Engineers - with Haas F1 Team's Laura Müller
Q: What advice would you give to young girls aspiring to a career in Formula 1?
Laura emphasizes that there are multiple paths into F1, not just engineering; students should pursue their interests, explore Formula 4 and other motorsport pathways, and be proactive in offering their help to teams to gain track-side experience.
F1 Explains: Race Engineers - with Haas F1 Team's Laura Müller
Q: How long did it take you to move up the ranks in Formula 1 and what positions did you hold before Race Engineer?
She describes a multi-step path, starting as a simulator performance engineer, progressing to a performance engineer on the car, and eventually moving into the race engineer role, with several intermediate titles that are common in F1 but differ by team.
F1 Explains: Race Engineers - with Haas F1 Team's Laura Müller
Q: What are these new regs like for race engineers?
Laura explains that the new regulations maintain core responsibilities but require a sharper focus on how energy and power are deployed, with more emphasis on kinetic energy management and strategic timing, while still aiming to maximize overall car performance.
F1 Explains: Test + Reserve Drivers with Cadillac’s Colton Herta + Zhou Guanyu live in Miami
Q: What is it like working with veteran drivers like Bottas and Perez?
Having experienced teammates helps in understanding how they approach race weekends, identifying weak points, and learning efficient ways to prepare and attack a race, which benefits the whole team.
