I am a parent to an 11 year old and I discovered this podcast about a month after I decided to finally pull my son from public school. I had known for a long time that public school would eventually not work for us, and I was desperate to find any resource to help in the decision. Not only did I have ten thousand questions about what to expect, but I also needed to hear from other people who had done this to tell myself that what I was doing was okay.
(I’ve even shared several of these episodes... more
I love listening to everyone experiences and advice. Hoping to hear from black unschoolers/parents. I'd love to hear some experiences and advice a little more linked closely to my culture.
Not sure why this podcast doesn’t have more 5 star reviews? I have been listening for years (before my kids were school age) and get so much out of each episode. Not just about a form of educating our kids, but so much on our own personal development as parents. It is so nice to have comfort and encouragement when you are walking the road less travelling, and this podcast gives me that and so much more.
I adore this podcast. I love how there is a wide variety of families experiences shared and lots of parents sharing their stories. Pam is a great host. I learn so much each time I listen.
I’ve really been going through exactly these things you spoke of and we’re new at this. I’m so lucky because knows the deal on homeschooling and what he needs so I’m able to shift gears and let him do his thing. He's 13 and has been telling me what’s been happening at school for a couple years and it’s been torture watching him suffering through that. Even though it’s challenging at times we’re so glad we’re doing this!

A practical, relationship-forward show that centers unschooling as a family and personal development philosophy. Across recent episodes, listeners hear nuanced discussions about parenting, consent, and building trust through curiosity, with an emphasis on non-coercive learning environments, plus frequent updates on community events like the Living Joyfully Network and the Unschooling Summit. The format blends reflective conversations, guest insights from long-running unschooling families, and Q&A-style episodes that translate big ideas into everyday actions.
