  • Wearing my business socks to listen

Great show! Fun and interesting, plus smart as all get out. Have loved Stacey since NPR and was devastated when she left, especially because she seemed to slip away quietly. But it has been good to hear her on APM and now on this show! The latest episode had a segment that involved photos though, and that was really frustrating for a podcast! If you’re going to do that, please have some way for the audience to look at what you’re referencing, such as on the show’s website or an associated IG acc... more

  • Terminal Like Disease

Delighted to find Stacey again. Love the show, the format. One question. Why do intelligent, thoughtful people have to insert LIKE every fifth word. The vector that spread this annoying ( really annoying ) disease? Podcasts and their hosts. If you can’t speak contemporaneously about a topic then write the damn content like the news media has done for decades and delete the unnecessary, unprofessional filler words.

  • Sometimes good, sometimes superficial

Sometimes it’s quite good but to often they don’t seem that well informed, more at only a superficial level. The recent show (markets gambling) they stated cloud computing is fully adopted as an example of the direction AI may follow. Sorry, what? Huge swathes of companies have no cloud compute or tiny amounts and many are starting to shift back due to costs and security concerns. As for AI well, more effort in checking guest statements would be good.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tickets, please!
Q: Give us an overview of the situation and what it means for the world right now.
Michelle Brouhard explains the stalemate in the Strait of Hormuz, the buildup of oil on water, and the impending drawdown of land inventories, all of which could drive higher prices and affect travel, energy security, and broader global markets.
Big Take: The Crypto Giant Amassing US Debt
Q: What is your takeaway after reporting all this about Tether and its inroads into the US economy and political system?
The takeaway is that stable coin adoption has plateaued and while crypto markets have faced recent pressures, there remains a growing use case and a careful push to expand in the US through platforms and regulatory-compliant tokens, though full mainstream adoption is not imminent.
Filing Your Taxes Is Hellish By Design
Q: What does the Fed do about this?
The guests discuss the difficult choice between raising rates to quell inflation and cutting rates to support growth, noting that either path has significant consequences for the broader economy and ongoing energy-driven price pressures.
Elon Musk Wants A Piece of Your 401(k)
Q: How is a guy who is in the news and potentially erratic going to be the world's largest IPO?
Dana Hull explains that the IPO's scale hinges on capital needs, timing, and investor appetite, and that Musk's track record with Wall Street relationships could help attract a broad base of buyers even if concerns about his public image linger.
Will Private Credit Doom Us All??
Q: Are we doomed if private credit encounters stress or a downturn?
The guests acknowledge the risks, including liquidity constraints and potential spillovers, but emphasize that the system is highly opaque and not fully understood. While the scale is large, there are structural uncertainties and unknowns, and observers are watching for how down cycles would unfold given the asset class's relative novelty and lack of historical precedent.
