  • Disappointed Again

Mario Parker provided broad opinion on the affordability question without any information. So affordability is made up of costs, wages, and direction and rates of change. The rates of change of costs have decreased. This is seen in lower rents, lower commodities. The rate of change in wages have evened. The issue is interest rates impacts on mortgages and on higher unemployment rates. Those are federal reserve issues which we expect to lower at some point when the fed catches up. • Here’s why wind energy

Ok tell me why wind can’t be sustained by the market price of energy? If it can then it will be built, I assume they only exist because of the government subsidies.

It was said when they get up and running the “can give you free power” - I think that is likely an uninformed opinion. Do some homework Rachael, come with numbers. Learn about the maintenance and cradle to grave co2 for coal, oil, gas, wind, solar - then you’ll be ready for an interview.

  • Sponsor ad comment

Really enjoy listening to your podcast over the last several years thank you. Some feedback about the PG&E ads where it claims PG&E is listening to its customers and has some guy saying “it’s fair” is a a bit galling and maybe reflect on your show or shows that you’re using it in. Just thought I would chime in and never comment on things but I imagine I’m not alone and thinking it’s sort of important taste. And like I said galling is the best word I could think to describe it.

  • 2 mins of ads for 6 mins of mid content

Just another money-making scheme to cram more ads into an already redundant podcast that’s covered by other Bloomberg shows.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Here’s Why a Debt Doom Loop Is Brewing
Q: What are bond markets trying to tell governments and central banks right now?
They are signaling that borrowing costs for governments are rising, which makes debt more expensive to service and increases the need for credible plans to stabilize debt paths; markets expect central banks to respond to higher inflation while governments must address fiscal sustainability to maintain confidence.
Here’s Why the US Might Expand Its Dollar Safety Net
Q: What signals should we watch as the idea of expanding swap lines develops?
Key signals include who the US Treasury negotiates with (e.g., UAE versus ECB), whether expansions involve the Fed directly or through other funds like the Exchange Stabilization Fund, and how these moves balance credibility, political incentives, and actual liquidity needs.
Here’s Why the US Might Expand Its Dollar Safety Net
Q: Alister, can you explain what currency swap lines are and who provides them?
They are liquidity tools where a central bank swaps currencies with the Fed, exchanging dollars for another currency at an agreed rate and time, reducing currency and credit risk since it's between sovereigns, with the Fed earning a small return.
Here's Why the Iran War Resets the Energy Transition
Q: Akshat, before the Iran war began, how would you characterize the conversation around the energy transition?
The discussion was led by countries following the US, with many countries leaning away from heavy renewables investment, but there was also movement in fossil-fuel‑dependent regions toward cleaner energy as a hedge against price shocks.
Here's Why the Iran War Could Hinge on Missile Math
Q: What do we know about Iran's stockpile of missiles and how many they may have left?
We don't know the exact numbers, but the key is whether Iran can actually use those missiles; the US goal is to degrade the missile program by targeting launchers and preventing firing, while Iran has also rerouted production and replenishment efforts.
