  • I love this Podcast! 😊

Ayesha, I came upon your podcast a couple months ago and started listening. I am thoroughly enjoying it! Being 64 yrs old and a HUGE ā€œSci Fiā€ fan, all the movies you have reviewed I’ve watched as a kid and loved! I am almost caught up and will soon be current with your new release. Thank you! I wish you nothing but continued success! A new and dedicated fan!

  • A must for Sci-fi fans

It’s been a fun journey following this podcast since it started, being introduced to lesser known films or learning something new about the production or place in history of the ones I have seen.

The bad reviews must be from pretentious as hell people, because there’s plenty of in-depth critical thinking, and Ayesha and her guests have perfectly fine broadcast voices.

  • What’s old is new again!

I’ve been a fan of sci-fi films my whole life, and thought there wasn’t anything more to be said about these old chestnuts. I was wrong! Ayesha and her brilliant guests put all my old favs in a new perspective. Great to get lots of cultural and film context, and fresh recommendations too.

  • This is the home for sci fi fans

I’ve been listening to this show since the beginning and it just keeps getting better. It is a very academic look at many sci fi films over time. Ayesha has created a community for sci fi fans where we can follow along, watch movies, and learn about the production and art behind them.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Blade Runner: Paul Franklin's Favourite Sci-Fi Film
Q: Do you think Deckard being a replicant changes the thematic core of the story, and does it affect how you view the film?
The discussion centers on the enduring debate about replicant humanity, noting that the film invites audiences to question consciousness and empathy, and that the emotional truth of the characters can stand independent of their biological status, which is a core strength of the movie's design and storytelling.
Blade Runner: Paul Franklin's Favourite Sci-Fi Film
Q: What influences from Blade Runner do you think have most shaped your own work on later films like Batman Begins?
Franklin explains that Blade Runner's urban density, the way Ridley Scott built a believable future city using real locations and layered sets, and Syd Mead's design vocabulary informed Gotham City's look in Batman Begins, including the sense of a city out of control and the integration of practical miniatures with kinetics of real locations.
Blade Runner: Paul Franklin's Favourite Sci-Fi Film
Q: Can you talk a bit about your first and earliest experiences with the film?
Paul Franklin describes discovering Blade Runner during his youth, growing up in Cheshire and being mesmerized by its future cityscape, the typography of the city, and the cultural context around the film's production, which solidified his lifelong fascination with practical design and atmospheric world‑building.
Fahrenheit 451: Truffaut's 1966 Suburban Dystopia
Q: Why did Truffaut choose a suburban setting rather than a fully futuristic one?
They suggest it grounds the story in a recognizable society, highlighting everyday media and social dynamics over flashy sci-fi spectacle, which aligns with Truffaut's intent to keep the drama intimate and human.
Fahrenheit 451: Truffaut's 1966 Suburban Dystopia
Q: Phil, thoughts on Oscar Werner as Montag?
The guests discuss Werner as Montag, noting his performance as stilted and ambitious, with clashes over interpretation that reflect broader production tensions, ultimately affecting the film's chemistry.
