  • Informative But Dull

This podcast is good in the sense of information provided but has the energy of NPR. If long pauses in thought and dead air gets to you, you might want to listen to it at 1.5x speed.

  • Can’t wait till the next episode!

Anglicanism can be both confusing and beautiful to Christians from other traditions, especially those who value the doctrines of grace. The clergy on this podcast are off to a fantastic start in trying to clear up some of the confusion. Their friendship also adds to the overall enjoyment of listening and learning.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Holy Spirit Activated Holy Communion with Rev. Dr. Michael Jensen
Q: Could you unpack what that means for us when Holy Communion is described as a means of grace?
Means of grace are relational, not merely transactional; the sacraments bind us more deeply to God's life while the Spirit enables faith to receive and be strengthened by grace.
Putting Together the Anglican Puzzle (with Rev. John Laffoon)
Q: What would you say to someone looking at the puzzle of Anglicanism and trying to put pieces together?
Encourage following Christ, studying the whole gospel proclaimed in liturgy, and trusting that the Holy Spirit uses the prayers and scripture to shape the heart; don't chase a single 'definitive' answer, but seek consistent gospel-centered worship and community.
Putting Together the Anglican Puzzle (with Rev. John Laffoon)
Q: What's an example of an Anglican Catholic practice that you experienced that created confusion?
Examples include genuflecting and keeping a tabernacle with reserved sacrament, which clashed with personal convictions and the table theology of the English Reformers, prompting careful discernment rather than blanket rejection.
BAPTISM, INFANT BAPTISM (with Pastor Adriel Sanchez)
Q: What happens to babies who are baptized?
Baptized children are brought into the visible church, joined to the family of God, and are recipients of means of grace through which the Spirit works to nurture faith, with the understanding that grace is not contingent on age but on God's promise and the proper administration of the sacrament.
BAPTISM, INFANT BAPTISM (with Pastor Adriel Sanchez)
Q: Why infant baptism is considered legitimate and necessary in this view?
Scripture presents a covenantal pattern where children of believers are included in the covenant community, evidenced by Old Testament circumcision practices, New Testament household language, and passages that speak of holiness of one's children; baptism thus functions as the New Covenant sign for both adults and children.
