We are new to the Anglican tradition (will be confirmed in a few weeks) and this podcast has been amazing for understanding Anglicanism. I would say the hosts are more reformed than I am, but it’s still great to hear the ins and outs of the tradition and where Anglicans fit in church history. However, if you lean more into Orthodoxy or Anglo-Catholic, you have to take some things they might seemingly mock with a grain of salt because I do believe they have great hearts, just not in alignment wit... more

  • Informative But Dull

This podcast is good in the sense of information provided but has the energy of NPR. If long pauses in thought and dead air gets to you, you might want to listen to it at 1.5x speed.

  • Can’t wait till the next episode!

Anglicanism can be both confusing and beautiful to Christians from other traditions, especially those who value the doctrines of grace. The clergy on this podcast are off to a fantastic start in trying to clear up some of the confusion. Their friendship also adds to the overall enjoyment of listening and learning.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

HEARTS AFLAME with DR. MATTHEW BINGHAM (Anglican Spirituality)
Q: Can you walk out the triad of scripture, meditation, and prayer in practical terms?
Scripture intake begins with reading or hearing the Word; meditation involves slow, reflective thinking on what is heard; prayer is the response, spoken back to God in light of what has been learned, with all three flowing into one another.
HEARTS AFLAME with DR. MATTHEW BINGHAM (Anglican Spirituality)
Q: How would you define spiritual formation?
It is a conscious process by which believers seek to heighten their thirst for God and progress in holiness through means of grace, not a vague general life concept but a structured approach tied to biblical foundations.
HEARTS AFLAME with DR. MATTHEW BINGHAM (Anglican Spirituality)
Q: Great book. Why don't we just start here with defining spiritual formation, there are many terms being used such as spiritual formation, spiritual disciplines, spiritual life, etc.
Spiritual formation is a conscious, self-aware process of pressing forward toward maturity in Christ through divinely appointed means like Scripture intake, meditation, and prayer, grounded in Scripture and shaped by the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit Activated Holy Communion with Rev. Dr. Michael Jensen
Q: Could you unpack what that means for us when Holy Communion is described as a means of grace?
Means of grace are relational, not merely transactional; the sacraments bind us more deeply to God's life while the Spirit enables faith to receive and be strengthened by grace.
Putting Together the Anglican Puzzle (with Rev. John Laffoon)
Q: What would you say to someone looking at the puzzle of Anglicanism and trying to put pieces together?
Encourage following Christ, studying the whole gospel proclaimed in liturgy, and trusting that the Holy Spirit uses the prayers and scripture to shape the heart; don't chase a single 'definitive' answer, but seek consistent gospel-centered worship and community.
