  • Genuinely good time!

I had the pleasure of chatting with Mindy about the release of my latest album “Forest Flow” for families. I could tell that she really cares about understanding the work artists present, through her thoughtful questions and warm demeanor. I was quite relaxed and felt like I was chatting with friends at pickup from my son’s school! She has a really lovely presence and allowed me to share about the creation of this project in deeper ways. Wonderful!

Ep. 231: Why the Music of Your Youth Never Leaves You – The Latest Research on the Musical Reminiscence Bump; with Nicholas Kathios
Q: How might today's teenagers' constant access to all music via streaming affect their reminiscence bump later in life?
Streaming could dilute the temporal specificity of when people were exposed to a given song, but the underlying developmental processes should still produce a reminiscence bump; researchers may need to rely on different methods, such as asking about music preferences during the reminiscence window rather than song-specific age, to detect the effect.

Q: For listeners who haven't heard that term before, can you explain what the musical reminiscence bump is?
The musical reminiscence bump is a music-specific version of the broader reminiscence bump in episodic memory, where people tend to have the strongest emotional memories and autobiographical moments tied to music from roughly ages 10 to 30, with a peak around mid-to-late adolescence depending on how memories are cued.
Ep. 229: Age-Proof Your Brain – How Music Can Help Prevent Alzheimer's and Keep You Sharp for Life; with Majid Fotuhi, MD, PhD
Q: What role can music play in age-proofing the brain?
Music engages multiple parts of the brain, enhances memory, and promotes social interaction, which collectively help prevent cognitive decline.
Ep. 229: Age-Proof Your Brain – How Music Can Help Prevent Alzheimer's and Keep You Sharp for Life; with Majid Fotuhi, MD, PhD
Q: Can you explain how you came to write your book?
Dr. Fotuhi explains it's based on experiences during his residency and seeing treatable conditions misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's.
Ep. 228: Your Daily Dose of Art – The Science of Living Longer and Better; with Daisy Fancourt, PhD
Q: What is the scope of the research you cover?
The book covers mind, brain, body, and behavior regarding the impact of arts engagement on health.
