  • Shouldn’t be aired

Host has zero judgment. I’ll never forget tuning in to WUNC, at noon on a Friday, and the first words I heard were “sex toys” and “penises.”

You shouldn’t have to worry about turning on NPR with little ones in the car.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Case For Embracing Your Sweat
Q: What does sweat reveal about health or identity beyond cooling?
Sweat carries salts, hormones, vitamins, and other bloodborne components; it can inform forensic analysis and even reveal anxiety states through odor, though it is not a detox mechanism.
The Case For Embracing Your Sweat
Q: Why do humans sweat differently from person to person?
Differences come from genetics (number of sweat glands and gland sensitivity), early life exposure to heat (toddler years teach the body how to regulate sweating), and environmental training—athletes in hot climates can train to sweat more efficiently.
Think Picky Eating Is Inevitable? History Begs To Differ
Q: What actionable steps can parents take today based on these historical insights?
Focus on patience and pleasure, avoid pressuring kids to eat, limit pre-meal snacking to increase hunger at meals, model and talk about enjoying diverse foods, and persistently offer foods without pressuring, understanding that resistance can be overcome with repeated exposure.
Think Picky Eating Is Inevitable? History Begs To Differ
Q: Tell me more about kind of where you looked for insights into how kids were eating and what sources were most compelling.
She looked across memoirs, school records, recipes, life insurance data, garden crops, and letters/diaries to triangulate how children described and experienced food, revealing that children often ate a wide range of foods in the 19th century and that many later shifts were driven by cultural and institutional changes.
Money Trauma … And How To Deal With It
Q: What are practical first steps for a couple to start addressing money together?
Begin with value alignment, establish a regular money date, discuss goals, responsibilities, and how to respond to emotions, then gradually build a shared approach to money management.
