  • Love this

Love the variety of topics and particularly appreciate the flexibility with Podcast options for earning continuing education. I did not give 5 stars because 1) I find it complicated to get CE credit from the Podcasts, using my iPhone. 2) I wish there were more clinical application podcasts topics available.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Reversing Type 2 Diabetes: What Nurses Need to Know
Q: What is the official diagnostic criteria for diabetes remission?
Remission is defined by three main factors: an A1C below 6.5 percent, off all diabetes medications, and a sustained period that varies by guideline (three months to 12 months), with length of time being a key differentiator.
Cultural Competence in Hospice Nursing
Q: Can you share a case where you saw a small cultural insight and it changed how you built your plan of care for that patient and how you built trust with that patient and their family?
A Buddhist family in South Florida kept force-feeding an elderly patient due to beliefs about nourishment in the afterlife; by asking respectful questions about their religion and preferences, I adjusted the education and care plan to honor their beliefs while ensuring comfort, which helped maintain trust and allowed hospice care to continue.
The Full Scope of Nurses' Work at the Bedside
Q: What practical changes can be made now to reclaim time at the bedside from documentation and non-nursing tasks?
Suggestions include better EHR integration, ambient listening/documentation, smart phrases, vertical integration of data, and engaging engineers to redesign workflows and nurse-friendly interfaces.
The Full Scope of Nurses' Work at the Bedside
Q: How should hospitals balance incentives to support teams rather than individual performance?
They discuss shifting incentives to reward collaborative care, healthy work environments, and collective outcomes rather than penalizing teams for failures, to avoid creating toxic competition.
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy and Psychiatric Nursing
Q: What should nurses understand about the difference between FDA-approved therapies and investigational or fast-tracked approaches?
Nurses should recognize that FDA fast-tracking can expedite consideration but does not equal approval; ongoing phase trials, safety monitoring (such as REMS), and robust documentation are essential, and integration with psychotherapy and care coordination remains a key component of responsible use.
