  • Cold riding comment

I live way up north and I do three day eventing … I went to a HT a few years back in October… it was so cold They actually had to break the ice at the water jump and it was 30° and snowing, and we still went out! Crazy ! Luckily, I ride outside all the time because I do not have an indoor so my horse is used to it!

Introducing Lateral Work Q&A
Q: If you were to give one bit of advice for a rider who collapses at the waist to the inside, both ways, what would it be?
Amelia recommends strengthening glutes and side obliques and placing more weight on the inside seatbone during turns to maintain balance for the rider.
Introducing Lateral Work Q&A
Q: How can I tell if he's really crossing?
Amelia suggests starting lateral work from the ground for visual feedback, and while riding, keeping the horse parallel to the rail can help monitor if crossing is occurring.
Introducing Lateral Work Q&A
Q: Would you already do lateral work if the horse is not consistently round and use it to supple him or to help get him round?
Amelia advises that generally, the horse should be forward and round before starting lateral work, although leg yields can help engage the horse's hind leg and improve roundness.
Introducing Lateral Work Q&A
Q: Can you walk us through step-by-step use of the aids for both shoulder in, haunches in, leg yield?
Amelia explains that for leg yield, use inside leg and outside rein to direct the horse, gradually transitioning to shoulder in and haunches in, emphasizing the importance of maintaining balance and adjusting the aids accordingly.
Preparing for Flying Changes Q&A
Q: If a horse is good at one of the flying change prep exercises, what information does that tell you?
It indicates balance is okay, but other areas like engagement need focus.
