Reviews

4.2 out of 5 stars from 241 ratings
  • The format of this podcast is very rapid fire, short Q&A which doesn't give enough detail to adequately explain things. Ultimately, this leads to some poor and potentially damaging (to handler/dog) advice. There is a consistent push to sign up for the courses, which really makes this podcast feel like a series of long ads. Find better dog training podcasts.

  • Not a professional but a dog abuser

What a moron. Neanderthal dog training. This guy has zero education and zero certification. He is the poster child for regulation in the dog training industry. Anywhere else in the world this guy would be in jail for abuse and animal welfare crime. The sad part is he believes his own B.S.

Why leash reactivity is never an isolated issue What Would Jeff Do? #1204 dog training q & a
Q: Sir D, do you just offer insight on reactivity? Let me know what I'm doing wrong. Typical shepherd, but I need her to chill out.
I'm not going to give you mere insight; I'll show you how to stop it. The emphasis is on fundamental training, restraint, and a clear bar for what 'well-trained' means, with practical demonstrations rather than abstract guidance.
Why dogs don't need "special" training programs What Would Jeff Do? #1203 dog training q & a
Q: What essential skills do you recommend for a trail dog or general purpose hiking companion?
Start with grounding basics, build a solid recall, and then apply the same baseline structure and leadership to any task; remember that every dog is different, so use the community and coaching path to tailor progression rather than relying on a single, bespoke training plan.
Why we'd rather work with aggression than dirty dogs. What Would Jeff Do? #1202 dog training q & a
Q: How do you stop leash reactivity—what's more effective, reward or correction, and how quickly can progress happen?
They start with reward-based obedience in Week One and introduce corrections for non-compliance to build reliability in high-distraction settings, noting that some situations require higher level corrections to achieve durable calmness.
Why we'd rather work with aggression than dirty dogs. What Would Jeff Do? #1202 dog training q & a
Q: Avi asked how to retrain a reactive dog, and what's the difference between retraining and rehab?
The host clarifies that rehab focuses on reducing reactivity and ensuring the dog can function in real environments, while retraining may imply teaching alternative responses; they offer multiple structured courses that address le))ash reactivity and behavior modulation.
How to stop nipping with blue heeler? What Would Jeff Do? #1201 dog training q & a
Q: Is it necessary to use punishment to stop whining or rough play indoors?
Yes, when used correctly and with a proper baseline, a punisher can stop the behavior; otherwise, waiting it out and relying on rewards alone may not address the issue.
