  • A class of its own

I’ve tried dozens of music podcasts over the years and can say without hesitation that Discograffiti is in a class of its own, thanks to the host, Dave Gebroe. Dave approaches each episode with unparalleled knowledge and tremendous enthusiasm, and his love for rock music comes through in every episode. Equally impressive are his interviewing skills: rather than relying on the usual, well-worn questions, he consistently finds fresh and thoroughly researched angles that lead to conversations tha... more

  • The best deep-dive music history show out there.

DIscograffiti, the host David, really, is the best deep-dive analysis and interview music show out there! His enthusiasm and passion for getting the story behind the classic albums and bands we love yields some incredible history. In listening to his vast output I have been able to hear perspectives I would have never been able to otherwise. His deep dives on the Beach Boys makes this an absolute must for anyone interested in the incredible work. He has managed to hunt down and get interviews wi... more

  • How Do I Find Past Interviews?

I am a subscriber and having difficulty finding some previous interviews, especially the ones with the Association's great late Terry Kirkman and Jules Alexander from 2023. This is certainly not a user-friendly podcast!

  • Decent content buried under Patreon ads

I’m all for supporting a full time creative but the intro and outro self promotion has turned me off this podcast (and many others that I know). I genuinely don’t wish any ill will to Dave. I hope you realize you don’t need to grind the ads for so long and so often. And it’s the same script every single week. It may be turning more people away who would actually support a patreon to hear extra tidbits. On top of that, not everyone can afford to support your endeavors but may just want to... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE PART 1: JACK CASADY REVEALS THE FULL STORY BEHIND THEIR ENTIRE CAREER (FEED YOUR HEAD PART 1, FEATURING TAKES OFF, SURREALISTIC AIRPLANE, & AFTER BATHING AT BAXTER’S) (Ep. 257)
Q: Tell me about the moment you joined Jefferson Airplane and what you thought that leap would mean for you.
Casady describes a practical, non-nervous leap into San Francisco and the Airplane, driven by curiosity and the promise of a different environment; it was about joining a collaborative, high-energy band and finding his voice on bass rather than pursuing lead guitar.
THE FULL STORY BEHIND THE CALIFORNIA RAISINS (OR, THE REDEMPTION TALE OF BUDDY MILES FROM THE ELECTRIC FLAG & BAND OF GYPSYS) (Ep. 253)
Q: Do you think that a year or two from now, you're going to be doing a reappraisal of the work of the California Raisins?
The conversation suggests that the California Raisins will continue to be revisited with a more nuanced understanding, especially in the context of Buddy Miles's broader career and the era's marketing culture; the hosts acknowledge the possibility of reassessment while highlighting the episode's aim to present a well-researched, respectful examination rather than a gimmick.
LOVE PART 2: JOHNNY ECHOLS REVEALS THE FULL STORY BEHIND LOVE’S EARLY DAYS (7 & 7 & 7 IS: THE DEFINITIVE 21-EPISODE STORY OF ARTHUR LEE & LOVE SERIES) (Ep. 250B)
Q: So you grew up one street away from Arthur in Memphis, and your families were even friends. How close were you back then, or is it too far back to really remember much?
Arthur was a couple of years older, and while we didn't hang out constantly, he looked out for me when other kids picked on me; we grew up near each other and shared music roots that later shaped our collaboration.
THE FULL STORY BEHIND RANDY CALIFORNIA & SPIRIT (PART 9: RAPTURE IN THE CHAMBERS, SEA DREAM, TENT OF MIRACLES, & CALIFORNIA BLUES) (Ep. 249B)
Q: What do you think happened here, Ryan?
The guests and hosts discuss the late-era struggles, lack of resources, and changing industry dynamics that contributed to Randy California's solo projects' reception, with emphasis on how prior Spirit-era momentum failed to translate into enduring commercial success, although some tracks and performances still showed moments of talent.
