  • Intriguing Angles and Down-to Earth Fun

I have really enjoyed listening to this podcast in its newest reiteration and revision — especially that Chad and Brian would have guests on the program not specifically from their own faith tradition (or any faith tradition) to give their experience and insights into the world of sport and how sport intersects faith and life. Give these two a listen!

The Gratitude Minute
Q: Can you go into more depth about that position, that role?
Caldwell explains that she supports coaches in integrating faith into competition, develops shared daily practices such as prayer and gratitude, helps organize worship events and baptisms, and is establishing a spiritual advisor program for teams.
The Gratitude Minute
Q: What are the questions you have about sport? What are the questions you have about, what are we doing here? What is happening in sport?
Caldwell describes wrestling with sport's purpose and what it means to give God glory while competing. Those questions led her to spiritual formation work at Valor, where she encourages athletes to see competition as an opportunity for worship rather than simply personal success.
Helmut of Salvation
Q: What challenges do you face balancing combat sports with ministry, and how do you address them?
He discusses the ethical tension between violence and worship, the need to glorify God through sport, and the importance of discernment, pastoral care, and providing a safe, principled framework for athletes.
Helmut of Salvation
Q: How did you arrive at Indigenous initiatives in British Columbia and Alberta?
He explains partnering with Indigenous communities via Native Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and First Peoples Initiative, emphasizing relational trust, learning local cultures, and empowering Indigenous leaders to own the gospel-centered work.
Helmut of Salvation
Q: Tell us a little bit about sport in your life.
Helmut describes sports as a lifelong pillar, shaped by family involvement in soccer, early leadership roles, and a transition into ministry through martial arts before joining Athletes in Action.
