  • Sublime generosity

Meditations, practice and wisdom on this podcast is excellent. I have been so lucky to be led here. If there were one thing I might prefer to be done differently is improving the quality of recordings. Teach people how to use a microphone correctly, adjust sound levels, address background white noise hum, and apply some noise cancellation. With deepest respect.

  • Great content, unfortunate limitation of episodes available on iTunes

Excellent selection - but limited to the recent 20 episodes or so. Thus, if you download to listen later the episodes might be already gone. I guess it’s an exercise in mindfulness of impermanence.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Donald Rothberg: Talk on Donald's Four-Week March Retreat, Discussion, An Appearance by Guru Garbanzo Bean, and An Honoring of Cyndy Gagne
Q: What was the most challenging part of the retreat and how did you approach it?
The speaker describes listening to what calls him, allowing practices to emerge rather than forcing a fixed schedule, and gradually expanding practice from shorter sessions to longer ones; he also uses grounding in the body and energy practices to stay connected.
Tuere Sala: Monday Night Talk: Cultivating the Eight Fold Path
Q: My question is, how can we get rid of this extra layer of suffering and grumbling without making that reactive part of us feel unloved and pushed away?
The speaker suggests not rejecting reactivity but tuning into it with awareness, recognizing the harm it can cause, and learning to soften the energy around those emotions so they don't spill over onto others; the aim is to diminish the weight of grumbling while staying present with the pain.
Dawn Neal: Open Awareness, Directed Attention, and Samadhi
Q: If someone naturally gravitates to open awareness while another prefers single-pointed focus, is one approach better or wrong?
Neither is wrong; mindfulness can be developed in either direction, and cross-training between the two forms can strengthen overall mental capacity, with maturity potentially favoring one orientation based on the individual's mind and practice history.
Dawn Neal: Open Awareness, Directed Attention, and Samadhi
Q: What is achieved by letting everything come in during open awareness instead of sticking to one focus like the breath?
Open awareness allows a wider perception of experience, including both common and less frequent mental contents, and over time builds a portable trait of mindful awareness; it is not about losing focus but about expanding the capacity to be present with multiple phenomena as they arise.
