  • Sublime generosity

Meditations, practice and wisdom on this podcast is excellent. I have been so lucky to be led here. If there were one thing I might prefer to be done differently is improving the quality of recordings. Teach people how to use a microphone correctly, adjust sound levels, address background white noise hum, and apply some noise cancellation. With deepest respect.

  • The wisest and best dharma teachers!!

You won’t regret listening to these talks by some of the best Buddhist insight practitioners and instructors in the world. You can listen to many different teachers and decide which ones speak to you ( or not). Highly recommend. Also: they need our support to keep their centers going and to make a living themselves. Thank you!! 🙏🏼

  • Great content, unfortunate limitation of episodes available on iTunes

Excellent selection - but limited to the recent 20 episodes or so. Thus, if you download to listen later the episodes might be already gone. I guess it’s an exercise in mindfulness of impermanence.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Donald Rothberg: Doing and Not-Doing in Meditation and Daily Life: Talk and Discussion
Q: What is the distinction between non-doing and sinking mind?
The sinking mind is a dreamlike imbalance in concentration and energy that feels pleasant but signals a disruption; non-doing is a deeper, expansive awareness that arises when one relaxes effort and allows attention to rest in the present.
Donald Rothberg: Juneteenth and Our Practice
Q: How can someone with OCD or similar patterns engage with meditation constructively?
While specifics vary, the speaker suggests using mindfulness to observe patterns, then applying Buddhist inquiry to understand triggers and work with patterns over time, potentially with Buddhist-informed therapists.
Donald Rothberg: Juneteenth and Our Practice
Q: What is the relevance of Juneteenth to Buddhist practice and ethical living?
Juneteenth is presented as a catalyst for recommitting to justice, recognizing systemic racism, and translating insight into compassionate action, including how to respond with solidarity and ethical conduct in daily life.
Dawn Neal: The Four Faces of Buddhist Love
Q: Would it make sense that loving kindness is outward and compassion inward, depending on the practitioner's state of heart and mind?
Yes, the speaker confirms that depending on one's heart and mind, the relationship between loving-kindness and compassion can vary, and both directions are compatible within the practice.
Nathan Glyde: Whole Life Practice Part Two: Caring For The Path
Q: Is secular mindfulness removing the ethical framework and certain dharma elements like rebirth that Western audiences may not accept?
The speaker suggests that while secular mindfulness may omit some elements, it is important to consider what views are conducive to awakening. Rebirth can be valuable if it lands for the practitioner, but the key question is whether the view supports awakening; if it does, it can be kept, otherwise it may be set aside.
