As You Like It, Part 2
Q: I really appreciate your teaching. It amazes me how you can kind of just flow through all these different topics seamlessly and make it all very understandable. So I'm curious, how do you balance developing good karma and merit for others with not having it become ego driven, where you're doing things for yourself because it feels good?
Ego is defined as self-centeredness. True happiness comes from recognizing our interdependence with others, so karma and merit arise from altruistic motivation rather than self-serving aims. Start with cultivating an altruistic intention, acknowledge that perfection isn't required, and use forgiveness and self-awareness to keep actions aligned with benefiting others rather than feeding the ego.
Emptiness as Affliction, Emptiness as Remedy
Q: What do we do when we feel empty because we lost someone very dear to us?
Recognize the loss but don't get overwhelmed by it; appreciate the memory without being fixated on the feelings of absence.
Choosing a Teacher: Qualities to Look For
Q: What do you do when your teacher dies?
The inspiration and guidance from a teacher continues to be present, even after they pass away.
Choosing a Teacher: Qualities to Look For
Q: What does it mean to follow a teacher?
Students are encouraged to ask questions and actively engage with their teachers to benefit from their guidance.
