FLASHBACK! Perhaps one of the most puzzling comics releases in years was The Book of Genesis, Illustrated by R. Crumb. While it’s a virtuoso art performance, the exact purpose of the book was puzzling to Crumb fans (“It’s not a parody?!”) and religio... more
FLASHBACK! Weirdo was a magazine started by R. Crumb, which featured Crumb’s work alongside that of a number of other underground-type comics creators. Crumb’s work from Weirdo’s 28 issues was collected in 2013 as R. Crumb: The Weirdo Years, 1981-’93... more

Potentially some of these episodes might be quite good but the two I listened to from recent months weee terrible. In one, the interviewer went off on long rambling questions, interrupting the subject on a few occasions and not following up on answers which begged for a continuation. In the other, the interviewer played the sycophant card throughout, laughing at ridiculous statements and agreeing with everything said n matter how inane.
The hosts are incredible at giving in-depth, respectful discussions on each week’s topic!
Highly recommended. An intelligent look at sequential art. Enjoyable!
If you want intelligent discussions on great comics from the perspectives of people based in America, Japan and Australia, then this is for you. A great world view on one of the finest art forms!
Tim and his rotating band of co-hosts do an excellent job covering comics from across the spectrum and around the world. Definitely not the usual comic book podcast. it is smart, insighful & entertaining.

A thoughtful, opinionated look at comics as a craft and cultural artifact, featuring two recurring hosts who trade deep-dive analysis with a global sensibility. Episodes span classic runs, indie publications, and genre-flipping works, often pairing rigorous critique with behind-the-scenes context about artists, publication history, and cross-cultural influences. The show stands out for its scholarly yet accessible tone, willingness to debate interpretation, and a willingness to highlight non-U.S. perspectives, including coverage of Japanese and other international comics scenes. Listeners likely appreciate well-reasoned, literate discussions that connect craft, storytelling, and artwork to broader cultural themes, while sponsors may value t... more
