Typical of the Jack Kirby comics we’ve read from the 1970s, the 1977 Black Panther series is a wild ride. Issues 5 and 6 feature a city of samurai (apparently nowhere near Japan), a yeti (nowhere near the Himalayas), and a nuclear missile (which is f... more

  • Choose carefully

Potentially some of these episodes might be quite good but the two I listened to from recent months weee terrible. In one, the interviewer went off on long rambling questions, interrupting the subject on a few occasions and not following up on answers which begged for a continuation. In the other, the interviewer played the sycophant card throughout, laughing at ridiculous statements and agreeing with everything said n matter how inane.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#873 Adam Tierney: Godzilla comes to Verona
Q: Why Romeo and Juliet? Why did that come up as the place for Godzilla to show up?
Adam notes the Monsterpiece Theatre spin-off and his love for Shakespeare inspired the idea, with the collaboration fitting into an anthology that reimagines literary classics with Godzilla, while balancing humor and horror.
#873 Adam Tierney: Godzilla comes to Verona
Q: How is writing a video game different from writing a comic?
He explains that games require branching dialogue and interactive planning often using spreadsheets; comics are more linear on the page and depend heavily on visual pacing and page turns, with a focus on not saturating panels with dialogue.
#873 Adam Tierney: Godzilla comes to Verona
Q: So how did you get into video games?
Adam describes starting in college with an English degree, doing pixel art, and eventually joining a company like WayForward, where he progressed from animator to writer and director, shaping his path from games toward comics.
#859 Jason Shiga: Choosing his own path
Q: What projects are you currently working on?
I've spent six years on a single interactive comic divided into two books, allowing reader choice with a unique physical connection between them.
#859 Jason Shiga: Choosing his own path
Q: What do you hope to achieve with your interactive comics?
I aim to represent choice visually and create meaningful decisions that engage the reader, while also exploring complex themes.
