  • I have been listening for a few months by now, coming from a harsh moment in life and absolutely no knowledge of taoism at all. With Kit's deep knowledge and experience about the subject and his precise ability to turn it into practical advice for modern life, as well as his gentle, articulate and full of humor manner of narrating, I am certain I've improved my life. I am very thankful to him and the work he has done and is still doing.

  • Living in the Netherlands, I came to know about Taoism through my experience in Chinese martial arts (Wing Chun and Tai Chi), but Taoism always remained an interesting but abstract concept. Recently, because of my changing personal circumstances, I started trying to live by the Taoist principles. This podcast series helps me a lot with practical tips and insights. I like the down-to-earth approach, the calm voice, the humor, and the honesty.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What Our Phones Are Stealing From Us
Q: Dear Kit, I do not understand the difference between Taoism that you teach and a more spiritual practice. Can I blend them?
Taoism is presented as observational, practical philosophy focused on aligning with natural patterns, while spiritual traditions involve a relationship with the divine or ritual. Blending is possible, but beware using one to avoid the other or outsourcing responsibility; stay honest about your motivation and maintain active personal responsibility.
The Weight of Self
Q: Why does Taoism seem kind of selfish?
Daoism appears inward-focused, but the host explains that true practice reduces self-preoccupation so one becomes more present and useful to others, rather than asserting an imagined self.
What is Awareness, Really?
Q: Mark says, just when I feel like I've grasped the concept of Daoism, I start worrying about what my friends and family will think, because they're Catholic. How do I navigate this?
You're not struggling with Daoism itself but with how it's perceived by others. Live Daoism quietly and plainly; if the topic arises naturally, speak simply and honestly. You don't need to defend or translate it for others—let your practice show in how you move and respond. If it doesn't come up, there's nothing to say.
Ask Me Anything Vol 4
Q: What is the difference between a Taoist and a religious Taoist?
Kit explains that philosophical Taoism is about living naturally and fluidly, while religious Taoism involves rituals and structured practices.
Ask Me Anything Vol 4
Q: Do you have rituals that you practice every day?
Kit describes his daily rituals as simple practices like qigong and walking meditation that keep him grounded and present.
