  • Interesting but

Interesting podcast show but unfortunately presented by 2 individuals that like to hear themselves a lot and talk a lot of blabla. First question to the guest is at 4:15 from the beginning. So please cut to the chase and don’t try to be a comedian.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bringing AI Securely Online with Florence Mottay
Q: Tell us about your journey into cybersecurity.
Florence describes starting with mathematics and software engineering, moving to the US for an exchange program, joining a startup focused on security research, learning from experts, and eventually helping to establish security in Europe and then taking executive roles at big companies like Zalando.
Iran Conflict Special with Tim Conway
Q: What practical steps can CISOs take immediately to reduce risk in ICS/OT environments?
Pertain to safeguarding control systems broadly, not just specific vendors. Emphasize reducing attack surface, disabling unnecessary internet exposure, enforcing strong access controls, and validating backups and recovery procedures across critical infrastructure assets.
Iran Conflict Special with Tim Conway
Q: How should organizations frame their response in light of potential escalations and the role of cyber in warfare?
The hosts emphasize pre-positioning, threat detection, and a strong emphasis on basic hygiene and resilience; focus on backups, segmentation, MFA, and avoiding exposure of engineering tools to the internet, with a call to account for interdependencies across multiple sectors.
Iran Conflict Special with Tim Conway
Q: What has been happening in the Iran-Israel-US cyber landscape, and how does it translate to practical risk for defenders?
Tim walks through a layered view: cyber is embedded in modern military conflict, targets range from IT to OT, and even seemingly mundane devices can become leverage points. The takeaway is to treat cyber-physical risk as a system-wide problem, not a siloed IT issue, and to prepare for long-term retaliation dynamics.
How Secure by Design and Public Partnerships Drive Deterrence: A Conversation with Jen Easterly
Q: What was it like helping stand up US Cyber Command and coordinating between agencies?
It was a small, entrepreneurial effort that relied on storytelling, cross-agency collaboration, and a focus on practical capability; through a dedicated team, they mapped out the mission, secured funding, and built a platform that could defend networks and project power.
