In an age of too much information, this podcast offers a much-needed well of deep thought. For those of us who miss philosophy class, this is the next best thing.

  • Started from the beginning

I had listened to a couple of episodes when I was writing my Masters on Heidegger. I decided to start the entire series from episode one and this is now a daily binge until I catch up to wherever they are today!

  • Current and lively but frustrating

This show takes on important topics and is well worth a listen to keep pace with the state of philosophy in current media. I've been introduced to thought-provoking topics and appreciate the work done here.

That said, the hosts have an unnerving inability to finish a thought before moving on or getting sidetracked.

  • Exactly what I wanted

I love reading media studies text. Said to my wife, “I need a podcast where people talk about media studies with an academic bent” and a search later I found this. And it delivered exactly on PhD style discussion around media studies. It’s great 🤟🏽 Bonus being, it introduces me to books, new and old, to check out. Good stuff! Keep at it and please continue delivering what you’re doing

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#101: Heidegger - The Thing, pt. 2
Q: Can we be near to technology?
It is challenging to achieve nearness in a technological age, but it is possible with conscious effort to think and engage mindfully with technology.
#96: Rob Horning - No One's Version
Q: What's so wrong about Barry Falk having a song about Barry Falk growing tomatoes?
The problem is that people might want popular artists to engage with their personal whims rather than appreciating the artistry and choice of the original song.
#92: Kyle Chayka - How to Cultivate Taste in the Age of Algorithms/The New Generation of Online Culture Curators.
Q: How do you slow down on the Internet?
It's difficult in a Web 2.0 construction because the organization of the Internet and information is designed to move forward without much friction, but finding niche spaces for engagement can allow for a more deliberate exploration.
#91: The Episode That is Not on Heidegger or His Letter on Humanism (but sort of is).
Q: Where would you position the university, the current university?
The current university seems to have become focused on production and efficiency, losing touch with deeper thought.
