  • Still A Good Listen

As a sober non-coffee drinking individual this podcast is not 100% targeted to me. However, there is still lots to glean from the great conversations, just like all the podcasts on the Blister network. Loved the conversation with Arvin about books and bookshops.

  • Amateur Hour - Tequila

I just listened to the episode on Tequila. Very interesting. Troy mentioned Clase Azul as a good $100 bottle of tequila. I was at a party where we sipped a Clase Azul Reposado, and I loved it. Fancy beautiful bottle and here in Oregon, the state liquor store price is around $180. A few years later, I learned that many tequilas have additives to enhance flavor, often to make it taste sweeter and enhance the flavor profile - this includes Clase Azul. What is the point of paying $100+ for a tequil... more

Love this! I normally don’t listen to content involving this topic but I found it to be informative and entertaining. Eli does a great job breaking it down for folks who aren’t familiar with the industry- exactly what I look for out of a podcast!

  • A+ for hospitality angle

Enjoying the new approach this podcast is taking in exploring beverage and hospitality- while “craft” can be present in so many industries, food and beverage is how most folks experience true craft regularly. The conversations are carried by a true professional’s nuance and a foundational curiosity that is relatable and aspirational- overall worth the listen every time.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Case Against Imitation: Brianne Day, Founder of Day Wines
Q: What do you think people are looking for when buying wine in a restaurant setting?
People vary by customer; some want wines that reinforce their ideas of what they know, while others want something new. Day Wines aims to provide both — approachable, versatile options for novices and more expressive, serious wines for explorers.
Cocktails in the Desert? Scott Gardner of Water Witch
Q: What was the concept for Water Witch, and how has it evolved?
The initial concept aimed to be a neighborhood, no-menu bar with a rock-and-roll, unpretentious vibe; over time it developed into a high-energy, community-focused space with a strong in-house cocktail program and a lighter, more playful identity compared to nearby elevated venues.
Cocktails in the Desert? Scott Gardner of Water Witch
Q: What did cocktail competitions look like back then, and how did they differ from today?
Competitions had prompts and live rounds that emphasized learning, storytelling, and networking more than pure branding; it was about growth, meeting peers across markets, and building a regional reputation rather than instant national fame.
Elizabeth Chubbuck of Murray’s Cheese on Quality, Value, & the Virtue of Inefficiency
Q: What are the key lessons you learned early about working with chefs?
Understand that each chef is under time pressure and has a unique decision-making process; be clear, efficient, and responsive, listen closely, and tailor recommendations to their specific kitchen needs and cost structures.
Elizabeth Chubbuck of Murray’s Cheese on Quality, Value, & the Virtue of Inefficiency
Q: What does Murray's wholesale business look like today, and how did it originate?
Murray's wholesale began as a natural extension of serving restaurants with a broad, high-quality cheese program; today it's a high-touch, consultative distribution to NYC kitchens and beyond, including national shipping and collaboration with Baldor and airlines.
