  • Love it!

One of my favorite podcasts. Mel’s style of questioning is so warm and engaging and she has amazing guests with interesting backgrounds and insights to share about their careers. I discovered the podcast when I changed jobs from a law firm to in-house and it has helped me immensely in understanding the ins and outs of in-house roles.

44. Leading with Heart: Mel asks Simon Playford all about lawyerin' in the not for profit world
Q: What advice would you give to an in-house lawyer considering a move into the not-for-profit sector?
You can definitely do it. Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone, lean into growth, and reach out to anyone in the not-for-profit sector for guidance.
44. Leading with Heart: Mel asks Simon Playford all about lawyerin' in the not for profit world
Q: What has surprised you most about moving from corporate to the not-for-profit?
There is a myth about charities moving a bit slower, but in my experience, that has absolutely not been the case. In fact, we move quickly and have to deliver services with fewer resources than in the corporate world.
43. LIFE AFTER LAW - FROM GENERAL COUNSEL TO CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER LAW WITH ANNA TICHBORNE
Q: What would you tell them and your past self?
Engage with all people, particularly in areas or departments that are challenging, and offer to work on projects to gain exposure and build relationships.
43. LIFE AFTER LAW - FROM GENERAL COUNSEL TO CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER LAW WITH ANNA TICHBORNE
Q: Did you just fall into it, or have you been really strategic about setting out to have an intentional career shift away from purely legal?
Anna reflects that her career has evolved naturally, highlighting a pivotal moment where someone presented her an opportunity to become COO, knowing she had always done more than just law.
