  • Interesting but lacks standing

I listened to this podcast due to a recommendation from another tech podcast but it was obvious from the beginning that when when is very well produced it lacks the knowledge on the topic from the host. A technical podcast should be presented by someone who know the stuff. Is like a dev manager that has never been a dev trying to teach devs how to be devs…

  • Great topics, great perspectives

I love the diversity of topics as well as perspectives of people in different tech roles. I appreciate the hosts’ efforts to stay on topic. I also really get the feeling the hosts enjoy discussing these topics.

  • Feels contrived to me

Feels like a missed opportunity to me - other podcasts in this area have more of a gritty reality to them. This feels like something Dilbert’s boss would listen to.

  • This is a „must listen to“ podcast!

For anyone who wants to quickly jumpstart your knowledge of earlier versions of everything, and learn to love ossified operating systems and all things Hardware and Software-related, have a listen.

I guarantee you will learn a lot and maybe even want to join the Compiler fan club, as I have. Now I never miss an episode and each time, come away knowing more: Specifically, why what came before, really matters. Thanks to the entire Red Hat team for making this great show possible.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Keeping Track Of Vulnerabilities With CVEs
Q: What is a CVSS score and how does it relate to risk?
CVSS is a numeric score from 0 to 10 that describes immutable characteristics of a vulnerability in three metric groups—base, temporal, and environmental—and it helps determine prioritization for remediation rather than representing true risk, which also depends on deployment context and exploitability.
Keeping Track Of Vulnerabilities With CVEs
Q: What about how many CVEs there were last year?
There were over 40,000 CVEs identified last year, which translates to more than a hundred CVEs per day, illustrating the scale and ongoing workload of vulnerability discovery and tracking.
Keeping Track Of Vulnerabilities With CVEs
Q: Okay. Can you elaborate?
Correct. So, I mean, it used to be like, you would put whatever you want. It's like a small sentence and reference to a mailing list, which made the information helpful but not actually that helpful. As the program matured, they added additional information and standards to ensure the submission is rich, consistent, and useful for remediation.
Collaboration In Product Security
Q: Speaking of, what does the Incident Response Team do exactly?
They act as the security first responders, ingest vulnerability information from various sources, orchestrate remediation across Red Hat products, and share how findings are validated to help customers assess risk.
Post-quantum Cryptography
Q: Vincent, how does modern encryption work?
They described public/private key cryptography with a master key for decryption and public keys for encryption, using analogies like a mailbox to illustrate how keys are distributed and protected.
